There has been a time or two where a smart car would have made better decisions.

Bartenders better not spill anything or get booze on their shirt if they don't want to be stranded leaving work. This is just asking for trouble, there is no way it will be accurate enough to avoid screwing over people who are truly sober.
If this were in every car in the US there would literally be thousands of people daily who couldn't start the car because of a BS reading or miscalibration

I would say this is an invasion of your rights issue.
Since it would be on all cars it would be guilt before innocence which goes against the US legal system.

I mean they're not saying that you would catch a charge for trying to start your car while drunk, but it could easily turn into if you blow between 0.0 and 0.8 (to where the car would still start) then it may end with you getting pulled over frequently

I only drive standard's so no I wouldn't get it

So what about ethanol gas? Isn't it a mixture of petroleum and booze? Would your car get the DUI?

As more and more government-mandated technology is stuffed into cars the prices keep skyrocketing. At what point do cars become impractical for transportation, drunk or otherwise?

Probably the plan of big government. Teens today do not even want to drive. To me a car has always been freedom to explore at your own pace. Times are changing.

Ok I no longer drink, so that means I usually have a car full of responsible drunks who won't drive when drinking, and this article pretty much says that my car won't run with them in it

No, but I don't drive drunk. Never have, never will.

When I was in high school a friend of mine got a DWI and had a breathalyzer connected to his car starter. He would still come and try to hang out at parties and not drink, but we would sneak outside and blow into it so the vehicle would become disabled all night and he was stranded.

Wait, really? The minute I turned 15 I made my parents take me to get my learner's permit and then I was at the DMV an hour before it opened on my 16th birthday so I could get my drivers license first thing that day. Having the ability to drive yourself around was paramount to having any sort of social life when I was in high school. Not to mention, how the frick do you expect to get laid if your mom has to drive you around everywhere? Stupid fricking kids these days.

Well, kudos to you. I, on the other hand, was young and stupid at one point and driving home drunk in college was a regular occurrence. Somehow I never got caught and even managed to get through a couple of road blocks, but I figure the law of averages will have to catch up with me eventually so if I have anything more than 2 drinks now I refuse to drive anywhere.

You do realize y'all probably caused him a shite load of grief because those things keep track of that shite and they would plug into it and download the info, I'm suprises he didn't get his probation revoked

All I know is that I would rather spend a fortune restoring a car I can be in control of 100% than drive such a dumb fricking contraption such as this. Government needs to stop interfering with how people run their lives for better or worse.

People will figure out how to beat this shite with a quickness. Never get between a man and his buzz. Whole underground businesses will be set up to hack this nonsense.
