I think we need story time.
Will one of the Boomer Kentucky posters post one about how Southern it is?
Only been to the Derby and Lexington for a football game.

so if Minnesota's quick facts said "Minnesota is a southeastern state..." you'd be cool with that too?
Now that's just silly. You know damned well Minnesotans speak English and drink pop. Nothing southern about it.

Because, who cares?
Here’s why we should care:
1) Mint Julep ....kinda sucks but it’s nice to be associated with an original cocktail.
New Orleans is the creator of the original cocktail, (Sazerac) and many more.
We taught the rest of civilized society how to drink.
2) Kentucky Derby....pretty cool we can claim the historical event as a SEC thing.
3) Basketball.....
But they cheat so much in recent years, this is wearing off.
4) I loved when Dale Brown would beat Joe B. Hall and make his head explode.

This is why no one takes Missouri posters seriously.

Yep...
Jefferson Davis is world famous because his statue was taken down in New Orleans and the street named after him (Jefferson Davis Parkway) will soon be changed too.

Geographically we are in the Mideast with Tennessee. There is nothing midwestern about our location.
Culturally we are southern. 70% of Kentuckians identify as southern and historically we have always been tied to the southern states.

Your thread is embarrassing and you should feel shame for making it.
Kentucky was given no choice in the matter.
Consider they were the leading producer or horses and mules (the automotive industry of that age), booze, tobacco, and hemp (most important for warfare of the age for rope and canvass) and had 500 years worth of coal they were considered a strategic state and "occupied" early on by Union troops to maintain their "neutrality".
While the city of Loserville had some Yankee elements the rest of the state was strongly southern leaning in their lifestyle choices. Folks in the Central KY area still refer to it as the "War of Northern Aggression" even tho they were overrun by carpetbaggers in the post war era and in the past decade has experienced a new wave of Yankee invaders from north of the Ohio Ocean.
They are still one of the few states to have both Krystals and White Castles which makes the unusual (I think Tenner is the only other similar state and nobody says TN is not southern).

Because plate tectonics has never decided to move Kentucky to the north!

I’m with you. I lived in Louisville for a few years and my opinion is that as a whole, KY is a southern state but Louisville is absolutely not a southern city. It’s a crossroads of sort but in my experience the only people who refer to it as southern culturally are not southern themselves. If a city has people that commute to it from Indiana, it’s not a southern city. Not saying that’s a bad thing, I actually like that about the city and find it unique in that regard.
