No doubt Trump is a long shot in the general election but if by some miracle an upset happens, the melt by you and your ilk will be so sweet.

yes, because more education is a bad thing.

At the expense of other forms of education, yes more college is a bad thing.

We're turning out droves of "college educated" children with degrees in things like liberal arts, social justice, ethnic studies, and a litany of other 'majors' that leave the graduate with loads of debt but lacking the skills needed to successfully operate a deep fryer at Burger King. Heck, more than 40% of newly minted lawyers can't even find a job as an attorney.

Meanwhile, demand for skilled trade workers (electricians, etc) is through the roof and over 50% of those workers are 50+ years old.

When you convince people they need a degree for the sake of having a piece of paper at the expense of directing them down a path that can lead to a successful, productive career, you are doing a very, very bad thing.

Am I going to be the first to post that a recent poll showed approx 20% of Trump supporters think freeing slaves was a bad idea?

I think my biggest issue with Trump is that he is nothing more than an opportunist. He's a salesman at heart and is selling the shite out of what his fanbase wants to hear, which of course is what most politicians do, but in my opinion, all this "he says what people are feeling" is a thinly veiled excuse for public racism and bigotry, which a large portion of his fanbase is lapping up.

My dad hates, hates, hates Clinton and he is scared to death of how bad a president Trump would be.

Another incredible irony is that Trump is a total authoritarian, which by definition, is counterintuitive to what his fanbase would assumingly hold dear.

adjective
1. favoring complete obedience or subjection to authority as opposed to individual freedom:
authoritarian principles; authoritarian attitudes.
2. of or relating to a governmental or political system, principle, or practice in which individual freedom is held as completely subordinate to the power or authority of the state, centered either in one person or a small group that is not constitutionally accountable to the people.
3. exercising complete or almost complete control over the will of another or of others:

Good read on that topic -

The Left shames people into agreeing with them.

If you aren't "liberal" and follow their agenda, you are a "bad person". The entire SJW movement is largely about "virtue signaling", which is putting up a flag saying "I'm a good person! I have black friends! etc".

The media is almost entirely Leftists, and they police their agenda using shaming tactics. Women in particular are susceptible to shaming, because women value consensus and cooperation much more than men.

If the TV people say "so and so is the biggest meanie of all time" over and over and over again, then weaker minded people bend to that shaming and fall in line.

Psy-ops at work.

Some of the responses on this thread are truly scary.

Have not decided to support anyone yet but I am extremely conservative.

I say that only to say, I just don't understand how anyone could support Bernie.
He's more communist than democrat.

Trump is the only republican candidate that can get enough points to win before the convention, no one else has a prayer. Trump vs Clinton will almost be a certainty after tomorrow night. Trump will be the nominee, if he can make it through the RNC.

Trump will go on to lose the race to Hillary for President. Then Trump will pursue an indictment of Hillary.

Interestingly enough, there's a story posted on Salon of all places where the author is predicting that she can't beat Trump.

It is going to be a very interesting election. Everyone (me included) keeps thinking the Trump bubble will burst at some point but it just refuses to happen.

There's no way that Hillary can stump Trump. It can't be done.

I'd rather take a risk getting a degree is something I enjoy than doing a job I hate. I think the bigger issue is that college costs so damn much these days and it keeps rising.

Two issues.

First, that's fine if you want to take that risk but don't bitch for $15 an hour when you're working the drive-thru because your theater arts degree hasn't opened the doors you'd hoped it would.

Second. One reason the cost is so high is because people will pay it. What do you think would happen if suddenly people said no, I won't pay that tuition. I'll learn a trade, get a job, join society, and work on that degree at my local community college. Odds are great that the cost would come down. Way down.

More and more people are doing option two every year. I know 3 or 4 personally. They all figure it's better to start at the ground level somewhere, work their way up, and maybe land a job at a place that offers tuition reimbursement.

I don't think it will ever get to the point that the number of people doing that cause colleges to reduce tuition though. The "must go to college to succeed" meme is already being drilled into my kids' heads and they're not even in high school yet.

If the price escalation continues, attendance will decline because people won't be able to afford it. Hopefully, it won't come to that though.

You're unfortunately right about the meme, and that really saddens me. There's not one damned thing wrong with making a living by doing skilled craftsman or even manual labor work. You can also be very successful at it.

I've come across as anti-college. I'm not at all, nor am I against chasing after something you enjoy. My problem is that we're sending the wrong message. It shouldn't be about getting a degree from a 4 year institution. It should be about learning the things you need to learn to be successful in life and in a career.
