Why would anyone wear clothes when going "out" that has writing/words on them? It just screams douche/attention whore.

Depends on where I'm going "out" to. I value my own tastes over fitting into someone's definition of "classy."

Doesn't mean I'm going to wear that particular shirt to an upscale restaurant or anything, but this thread was talking about wearing that attire in general.

Better yet, are you not being a pretentious asshat when you follow around everyone on the SEC Rant Off-Topic Board correcting their use of an acronym that you don't approve of?

I mean since you assume having a preference = being pretentious.

Since a whole lot of people at a particular time share a certain viewpoint, it must be right?

Again, my generalization was a an objective one. Not something like "people who style their hair a certain way and wear a certain type of t-shirt aren't classy."

Oooh story.

Was at an upscale restaurant when me and my family went to Hawaii. A guy with an affliction style shirt on and jeans walks in and they asked him to leave because he didn't meet the dress code. Guy was pissed and started to get loud but was finally told to leave or the cops would be called.

Anyone who says they dont' make generalizations based on someones appearance is a fricking liar. It's the human condition. And it's impossible to be different.

Of course I do. I see someone tatted up with nose piercings I automatically think they are into punk rock. Or if I see some 20 something year old at the bar in typical frat attire, I automatically think they are in a frat. But that's not the same as making value judgments on those people just based on their style.

Didn't say that at all. You accused me of making a generalization on a personal viewpoint. Obviously there are people that share that viewpoint and have observed a similar phenomenon with the guys mentioned in the OP. I'm nowhere near alone in this.

bullshite. Just like your non-objective generalization of me being pretentious or trying to adhere to a specific social group when you don't know me, who I've dated, or who I associate with.

Someone who is classy and carries themselves well isn't going to dress like a tool.

Someone who's truly classy will stick to their guns and dress how they're comfortable, so long as the setting is appropriate.

And plenty of tools dress "classy," just for the record. And they're just as easy to spot from my experience.

I thought even those who bought affliction shirts new they were douche bags when buying them. You have to have a certain attitude to buy and want to wear those ugly as shirts, and that is a douche bag.

You don't see goth kids rocking polo.
You don't see frat stars wearing spikes around their necks.

Instead, you see frat stars in polo, goth kids wearing black, and finally, douchebags wearing affliction.

No hate involved here, just companies targeting certain people...with affliction targeting the douchebag crowd.

ETA: There are exceptions to everything.

I don't own a tuxedo. I do own a suit, but I've wore it like twice in my life.

I think there's an assumption being made that "classy" is only polos and khakis. Or frat. I know some nice looking, classy cowboys who go against the grain of both of those.

It really is more about how you carry yourself than anything. And it's not just about the Affliction shirt (as Dr. Jones says in the OP, but Jon Ham is all hung up on). It's a whole persona that is totally off putting and not "classy" IMO.

False. A nice button down shirt costs just as much as an affliction shirt...those people dress like douches on purpose, not because they can't afford nicer looking clothes.

This. The way I carry myself in an "affliction" shirt is the same way I comport myself when I'm in my military uniform, as do the friends with whom I choose to associate. For me, the clothes can change, but the person wearing them never does, and people respect that.

At the end of the day, a douche will still be a douche whether he's in affliction and camo or a three piece suit, and the same applies vice versa. I try to give everyone a chance regardless of their appearance until they give me a legitimate reason to not respect them.
