Yes he was. So were the James brothers, and they learned to fight riding with William Anderson.

I'll also add that Reeves rode a white horse.
The Lone Ranger = Bass Reeves

Why is there not a movie about this man?!
They better make a miniseries about Capt. Jack C. Hays first.

I actually did a paper about hardin.
He once killed a guy for snoring too loud
I have a little farm less than 20 miles from where he was born.
Bass Reeves, though, has been the most fascinating answer thus far. Someone DOES need to write the screenplay about him.

No votes for Doc Holliday?

John Wesley Hardin was reported to have outdrawn a whole room full of men.
Arizona Ranger Jeff Milton didn't kill that many but was said to be very fast.
Wyatt Earp said Doc Holliday was the fastest, nerviest, and deadliest man with a six-gun that he ever saw.
Burt Alvord put a few in Boot Hill in Tombstone.
Buckskin Frank Lesley wore his gun on a swivel on his belt and would kill with little or no provocation.

Bass Reeves. US Marshall. He was the inspiration for the Lone Ranger

quote:
Bass Reeves (July 1838 – 12 January 1910), one of the first African American Deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River, arrested over 3,000 felons and shot and killed fourteen outlaws in self-defense.
