If you could retire in any part of the US, what state/ region would you choose? I've always liked the mountains and foothills of the Appalachians. I think I'd retire somewhere around NC, TN, or KY

Probably the same. Somewhere in the NC mountains.

Would probably stay in Nashville or the outskirts and have a lake house

or just at the lake house

eta the mountains would be nice as well.

Georgia coast: nice weather and beaches, good food, good fishing, close to Savannah, charleston and Hilton head to the north and all the Florida stuff to the south. Far enough from metro ATL and elsewhere that others would have to make an effort to see me

Purchase the Mulberry Plantation outside of Charleston, SC

Or a sugar plantation as there is one for sale in Kaapu, HI.

Realistically, wherever I am living at the time that is close to the beach and is in the South.

I'd probably stay around where I'm at now.

If I did leave, I would probably go to Wyoming. Maybe Cheyenne or Cody.

I'm guessing we will continue to live where we are, but will travel more. Would like to be in the mountains a bit personally.

I'd stay here in SA. Love the people/culture.

Been trying to get back here for half my life....would like to put down some roots and stay awhile. I can visit everywhere else, but I'm home now, and I'm happy.

I would never leave Texas permantely, but if I got like banned from the state... I would say either Montana (Bozeman) or somewhere near The Black Hills in South Dakota. Both are beautiful parts of the country.

But I doubt I could ever permanetly leave Texas

I love SA. Spent time there back in the early 90s at Ft. Sam. Great city.

Thanks for your service!

My dad was stationed at Randolph AFB in the early 90s. Wife and I tried to get a tour there or at Lackland while we were in, but weren't so lucky.

Town has grown/changed a lot, but still has much of the same feel.

If I was to ever live in Texas it would be in this order

UP/HP
Alamo City area
Beaumont

Any other place I would not live, just do not like the areas. I despise Houston area, Austin, Ft Worth and Metroplex (other than two spots mentioned).

West Texas is bad, but its fun to go the ranches to go riding for a week or weekend.

Colorado, in the mountains. Yes, I would permanently leave Texas. It is flat, overpopulated, and insanely hot with no rain every summer for 4 months. The rainless heat issue wasn't something I even noticed that much growing up, but now that I am mid-30s it is getting more and more annoying to endure every year.

WTF? The others make sense, but Beaumont is a shithole.

San Diego. I'm also hoping to move there in a few years.

My first choice would be Bend, Oregon but I could manage most anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. I'm assuming in this thread we're throwing cost of living out the window. Realistically, I'd like to retire in the North Georgia or North Carolina Mountains. I'm finding the older I get, the more I can't tolerate the heat. So, somewhere the summers are bearable I guess.

On a lake in Arkansas. Taxes are low, fishing is good, and beer is cold.
