Why?
because it means one spouse is going on a vacation with their in-laws. F that noise (again, love my in-laws but not for a week straight)

If you don't have reunions and your family is scattered all over the place like mine is, a vacation is a great way to see/reconnect with the fam. Even if "vacation" simply means all the rest of the sibs show up at my parents' place.
Not that hard for my wife and I to sneak off and have some quality time together if you know what I mean

Sounds like you are just uncomfortable fricking your wife down the hall from the room your parents are fricking in.

I've taken long-term boyfriends on vacation with my family like that and they've loved it.
For TWO weeks no less.

so then why is it weird for my parents or aunts and uncles to go on the vacation but not for me, my sister, or cousins.
Wut?
I'm talking about young married couples going on vacation with their parents. are your parents a young couple?

This, tbh
And I have damn cool in-laws. I actually think I like spending time with them more than my wife does

good luck with marriage bro.

I feel like we should be wishing you good luck since you have some weird aversion to a family vacation.

been happily married 5 years in July thank you. whatever we're doing is obviously working.

Obviously. But it's kind of sad you can't grasp that people might actually like their extended families enough to vacation with them even after they're married (like vacationing with certain people dies after marriage or something
).

I have trouble grasping that. I like some of my extended family but I wouldn't waste a vacation week every year. I will give them one every 5 to 7 years

And that's cool, I'm not saying everyone should like it/want to do it. But it doesn't make the rest of us weirdos who do it. Which is obviously is what Lat is trying to get at.

Only weird of you still stay in the same room.

Yes, it's sad that I brought up a topic for discussion on a message board.
ETA: and you aren't even married so why are you even chiming in?

The place we usually go is a mom and pop deal on the beach that's all apartments and efficiencies. When I bring someone with me we stay in separate apartment.

My mom and I are best friends. She is incredibly fun, and by far my favorite travel companion. I go on vacations with her as much as I can because there will be a time that she isn't here anymore, and I will miss going on vacations with her.
I just think it's normal to go on vacations with people you get along with. If it happens to be your parents, all the power to you. As it is, all of our family friends still go on vacations with their parents as well.
My ex boyfriend's parents rent a house in Venice every summer and they assign each of the children a block of time to visit with their families.

Because people I go with, as I said, are married. Like my parents, aunt/uncle, etc. I've been in long-term (i.e. 4-5 year) relationships where my SO has gone.
Why are you bitching about someone chiming in on a message board when it's a message board?
