Foreign languages were the bane of my existence. I started going deaf while I was in college and if you think understanding a native Spanish speaker is difficult wait until you can't hear half of what they are saying.
Thankfully I was finally able to convince the University to give me a waiver because there was no way in hell I could have passed advanced Spanish.

My story arc is almost identical to the OP. I still want to be an author, but like OP said, having an English major isn't going to help you sell books.
These days I work for myself in a completely unrelated field and am happy with my decision to quit school. For now anyways. I will most likely go back and finish at some point, but that's way on down the road. My work keeps me plenty busy.

Thanks baw! This is my last semester for my bachelor's. I'm taking sports economics, conspiracy theories (senior seminar), leadership in the workplace, and facility security. Associates & Bachelor's completed in 3 years - in class at age 31.

I knew my last few semesters it was not what I wanted to do but I goofed around and changed it a few times before and was ready to be done so I just went with it.

Don't use any of them. I was in PR and adsales before I decided to switch careers to fire/rescue.
Other than a great time, college was a waste of money.
