Yes, escalator to Hell. 207 ft, straight fricking down, I think there are longer escalators, but none are as steep. And the poor lighting makes it even more terrifying. This image doesn't really capture how ridiculous this thing is.

Ah. Yes. That is the one. I hate that thing.

I kinda want to say Detroit, but New Orleans, apart from a select small area, is pretty gross.

Even most of the suburbs are gross.

Another vote for Trenton. McDonald's had locks on bathroom and bars on Windows. I still can't believe I stopped.
I found a new train station after that trip.

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Managua, Nicaragua is a close second.

Disclaimer: I love Latin America. Granada and Leon are fine places to visit. Same with Roatan and the islands in Honduras.

But the capital cities of those two countries, in particular, are like next-level shitty. There is no place in the United States that even comes close to the shittiness of these places.

I haven't been to Allendale in about a decade.

But still...I was born there so it does have one redeeming quality.

Go check out the waste land that is Hoxie Arkansas. It's actually a town, I guess, but damn that place is depressing.

Enh, more people live in some apartment complexes then Hoxie.

It is a crappy small town. But this thread would reach the 1000+ page status if we included crappy small towns. We would have 50 pages at least on Mound Bayou, Mississippi.

Probably Shreveport

but there are numerous places in east KY that could fit the bill as well. It was wypeople scary there. Very opiate-y.
