Ya, I dont see any situation where what other people do or say would change my opinion of anyone. But hey, Im an adult capable of coming up with things all by myself.

Why would you let opposing fans influence how you feel about a player? That seems kind of silly.

Jesus, I'm not saying it would kill myself over it, it would just get old. Like dealing with racism jokes.
Posted on 4/30/13 at 3:01 pm to OBReb6
So people making racist jokes makes you feel differently about black people? That's kind of fricked up.

I really don't know. I completely went beyond the scope of what the original debate was about. Sorry

Lest we not forget that D was sickness particularly the DL, of which 2 guys were direct products of the state of Alabama

No one said you'd kill yourself over it.
But how is it any different then any other shite opposing fans say about other players/coaches? That'd be like saying my opinion of Calipari has changed because opposing fans first response to anything about him is "OMG CHEATER!!1!1". IDGAF. He's still a badass mofo to me.

More on topic....
I think jokes are just a part of the game. Opposing fans will take anything you give them and run with it. Whether it's race (Jeremy Lin and people shouting "Pork Fried Rice" or something), or basing it off illegal activity (Michael Vick dog jokes). It happens to every athlete; they know how to brush it off

you guys are totally missing his point.
YOU might not feel differently about (directly) a gay athlete, but you guys are dumb asses, living in a hole, or both if you think that you would not experience the effects it would have on a fan base indirectly (you would be included in the fan base) by this. The degenerates of your fan base (we all have them and Alabama you lead the way with reasons I provided previously) WOULD go out of their way because they are fricking ignorant to make life hell for that kid during game day. YOU as a fan would experience this and it WOULD effect you and it would alter effect your thoughts on the kid coming out. He did not say it would do so NEGATIVELY. What is so hard to understand about this?
What he is saying has absolutely nothing to do with how he feels personally about gay athletes.

The question in the OP was how would YOU feel about it. So...
And no, it wouldn't change my opinion of the player. The dumbass members of my fanbase who get that asshurt over a player's business off the field/court is another matter.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills

Don't you realize Alabama cares more about football than we do social tradition? There would be some minor backlash, but the majority would still support the athlete; but it has to be someone like Julio Jones and not some random player

It's beyond my comprehension.

Pretty sure he could still have kids through surrogacy which might actually be better because he could pick a female match, (maybe Brittany Griner?) that would produce athletic superbabies

I just don't think I'd want to let some random woman have my baby, because she'd also have rights to that baby and want to help raise it as well. I'd much rather adopt and have my own personal baby to raise, but that's just me

You can't just adopt a genetically superior quarterback

I know; I'm just saying. A female joined this thread- it has to go off topic now

That's why I'm saying in vitro fertilization would be the way to go. That way you can find the perfect genetic match and create athletically superior babies. Since you cant have them the traditional way, why not maximize the end result. I see it as a win/win
Regarding my OP: I went with former athletes for the reasons being argued above, I dont know if the SEC has evolved enough to handle a current player coming out. However, I do think the response to a former athlete, especially one of iconic status would be much more supportive and understanding
