Where would you go and what would you do for a weekend if you could go anywhere in the US, by yourself, just to get away, have a good time and get your mind right?

I'd probably rent a car and drive down California Highway 1... You would probably fly into SF and could spend some time there as well.

Maybe a trip to Yosemite...

There would be plenty of fellow travelers at either location, but solitude can be found if you're looking for it.

ETA- Zion National Park is amazing as well, but I don't have any pictures of the park on my phone.

Either go to San Antonio for a Spurs game or to the go kart track in Kansas City.

I've been thinking about going to a weekend retreat at Furnace Mountain, down in Clay Co., Kentucky. There's a Zen Buddhist monastery there. Always thought that'd be a cool place to just go and unwind.

I've been to Cali recently and going to Big Sur for a wedding in a few months. Not to mention the reason why I need to get my head straight is in Cali, so I'm not ready for those memories to come rushing back yet. Otherwise, that would be perfect. Thanks!

San Antonio is always nice, I wanna get out of TX, tho. Never been to KC, could do a BBQ tour or something. What is this kart track you speak of?

interesting... I was thinking about KY, but Louisville or Lexington. I would at least like the option to go be around people if I were so inclined. But that does look like something I'd be interested in doing one day. I wonder what the retreats are like?

fwiw the SO and I are driving to Pensacola for memorial day weekend. Just us 2, and not doing shite except beach lounging. Buying groceries for 3 days and just hanging out. Might go to dinner 1 night.

So you could do that.

looks amazing! I've always wanted to go to Alaska, though I'd probably have to take at least a week to do it. Wonder how long the flight is from TX?

Me too.

I need to hit up the Bourbon Trail again. It's been awhile.

Probably direct, 6 hours to Anchorage. To Juneau would be longer, simply because you'd have to stop in Seattle and transfer planes.

All of that is within 100 miles. We take weekend trips to those towns or locations periodically. Sitka is an awesome place. People talk about Milford Sound in New Zealand, but Sitka Sound or Tracy Arm/Fords Terror is as spectacular.

That sounds great, but exactly like something me and my ex would do.
