I think the reasons against it are BS...........but I also think the reasons for it are BS. Rampant voter fraud is BS and this issue is just a rallying cry for mouth-breathing wingerz.

Irrelevant. Call it a stimulus.

Probably the same people that foot the bill for people that can't afford food nonetheless a voter ID.
But I'm arguing the question as it was posed.

I've found myself falling mostly in line with your POV in this thread 808. I'm starting to question reality.

it's just a way to control who votes. And I don't think it takes too much thinking to see who benefits from it

I guess I am too because the question in the OP is pretty stupid. It implies that a person can get a free photo ID, neglecting to mention who would foot the bill.
And what if they lose it, do they get a free replacement? If offering free voter ID cards outweighed the risk of voter impersonation, there would already be a federal law in place. There are only 9 states with strict photo ID laws, 7 of which are Red.

The only person it is meant to control who votes is those who shouldn't be voting. And it doesn't take too much thinking to see who benefits from it.

Why do you think minorities are too stupid / lazy to obtain an ID?

How do you feel about poll taxes?

So like absentee and extended voting.

Not a fan, but just because Eric Holder calls voter ID a poll tax doesn't make it so. In fact, anything Eric Holder says is likely the opposite of the truth.

except it's exactly like a poll tax

Except it's not, you're not smart enough to be in this thread Gladius, GTFO.

How do illegal immigrants get SS cards? ID? Jury duty summons?

it is. as it's worded, it's just meant to make sure people who vote are legal citizens 18 years of age, casting one single vote. to infer anything else is just looking for something.
again, to think it means that republicans are trying to stop people from voting, would mean that its detractors think that minorities and poor people are to stupid to figure out how to get an ID.

No one is arguing that people are too stupid to get an ID. It's the fact that ID's aren't free, so requiring one to vote is indeed like a poll tax. Poll taxes were specifically aimed at preventing black people from voting, so it's largely a symbolic thing.
Sure, a poor black person could probably scrounge for $25, but the photo ID laws reek of Jim Crow and that's a big reason people don't like them.

For but they shouldn't be free. They should be 20 dollars or whatever it cost to renew a dl. If you can't afford 20 dollars for an id then you are too poor to vote

Poors that can't afford ID should be processed into food for other poors.
