Do people really like these things? I had one when I was in 6th grade but is this an okay thing to have as an adult?

I think the one I had my senior year of high school was cool as frick.

Of course, that was in 1984. Your mileage may vary.

They make a lot of sense to have. But I don't know any adult that has one.

I take one on vacation. That way, I'm only carrying what I need, and if it gets wet or stolen, I have a precise list of the contents and phone numbers.

ETA: plus, what thief is going to pick up a Velcro wallet?

It was actually recommended to take one when I was planning my backpacking trip in Europe, and have a "dummy" nice wallet as a decoy. Backpakers are huge targets for pickpockets over there.

I sell cars and about 15%-20% of adults have them....

Nothing worse than thinking you have a car deal and you hear the sound of velcro when you ask for an ID

Rubber band wallet in the front pants pocket still the best. If somebody put their hands down there, you know pretty quick.

They go well with digital watches and clip on ties.
