If it were my daughter I’d advise her to take the free UF money, and then bust her arse to get into an elite Med School. So if she ends up deciding that she’d rather be a teacher instead of a doctor you’re not paying massive tuition.

If she’s still committed to becoming a doctor after 4 years, and can get into an elite med school, that would seem like the smart investment.

DavidWebb. Thanks that helps a lot. Ironically we are visiting WashU next month too. What did you think about it? She could actually make the swim team there.

She’s good enough to have a good shot at admission almost anywhere but not good enough to get much merit at the elite schools.

The truly elite schools don't do merit - it's purely need-based. Don't let assumed cost of attending prevent her from applying to these schools.

She’s gotten mail and email from practically every elite school in the country, most more than one. All the Ivies, Stanford, Chicago, MIT, etc.

Pay attention to these. I won't get into arguments about "better", but these schools are definitely good, and any of them will provide a path to med school (or damn near anything else).

I was very impressed with Wash U. My daughter is more interested in law school, but my med school roommate was a Wash U grad and I have a niece who is pre med there currently and is eyeing med school at Vandy. It has a strong rep for its premed program. Unfortunately still expensive. If she decides she wants to go there it is important that she let them know. Wash U is a " demonstrated interest school", unlike Vandy. The more interst she shows in them, the more interest they will show in her. If she is interested she should ask for an interview. They will set her up with a student interview, but she can request a subsequent interview with an admissions officer. My daughter applied ED, and they have sent numerous letters, t shirts etc since she was accepted. They go above and beyond giving their accepted students attention. She gets something literally every week. Last week she was called by her guidance counselor in order to plan her classes for her first year. My son at Wake has never gotten that level of attention.

Seems this may be schools in general.

Had a relative just turn down Wake for the same reason. Felt they go no attention even tho they were accepted.
