Does anyone here have any experience working with and cutting and crafting tungsten?
I want to build a solid, one-piece globe dumbbell similar to the Thomas Inch for strongman training at my gym. I say tungsten because it’s very heavy, and the goal weight of the dumbbell is 600. Along with a 3” thick handle (to challenge the grip).

Some more of the extreme. The Hercules Gripper. It takes about 1800 pounds to close.

Unfortunately there isn't much of a way to do this at home. Tungsten melts at about 6000 degrees F. I know with tungsten fishing weights they mix tungsten powder with another metal such as nickel at about 95/5 percent and form it under extreme pressure. Again not something the average guy has the equipment to do. If you found someone who could do it the cost would probably be more than it would be worth.

Super freaking hard to cut or cast tungsten. You may want to check around places that are 3d printing with tungsten powder to see if you could have some made that way....just make sure you have OT $, cause it won't be cheap.

Almost imposible to manipulate tungsten on your own with basic tools. Especially something that large.

I work in the fishing business and a lot of our tackle is going to tungsten and very few places in the US even deal with it.

EPA and the fear of lead.

There are a few states that are not even allowed to use lead in fishing tackle. Its not really spreading but eventually it will all have to be replaced with something else..

Surprisingly its more of the northeast. Mass and its likes

California did however pass Proposition 65 which forced anyone selling in California to change the current "warning" labels on any toxic products (which is almost anything sold) to very specific verbiage.

I had to change all my packaging for it by August this year. Sounds easy but the logistics of changing and using all my old packaging and then getting new is a pain. Took me about 8 months to finish that fine little project

They are running a money grab type of scam with it. They find your product not labeled correctly sold to someone is California, then they have a lawyer send you a letter stating they are taking you to court over. it. Then you get a second letter that will allow you to settle out of court for 10K and then you have to immediately change your packaging. Even if it was bought on line.

Yeah, I'm very familiar with the California laws. I have an e-commerce store. Among other things, I sell furniture. I'm strictly a middle man...I don't manufacture or even possess a vast majority of the items we sell. Anyway, I sold a piece a furniture to a Cali couple and it apparently didn't have the proper labeling, so the couple reported my business to California's AG office. Imagine my surprise when I received a letter saying I was being fined for improper labeling on a product I didn't make nor had ever seen. Took a couple weeks and some threats to clear up the issue. The kicker to this whole ordeal...the manufacturer of this chair was in California, yet no one turned them in.

TLDR: frick Californians and their fines
