Trump not on invite list

Obama not on invite list

Try not to make this partisan of either party and focus on the point.

If the UK is our closest ally, why is the US being snubbed?

You specifically just asked us not to give you the correct answer, but I will.

Trump is controversial. An invitation would create anguish and uproar among the left.

The royals value decorum above feeling. They would never commit the social faux pas of inviting a former US president without inviting a sitting US president.

For all the ridiculousness of monarchy, they are very classy.

This is a royal wedding, but not for a future king of England. I dont think either would have come. Maybe Obama. he's a whore for attention these days.

Obie would have gone and asked to go on the honeymoon. And would offered to show Hairy all about a Dirty Sanchez.

Since Harry is something like 5th or 6th in line to the throne, the wedding isn't a state event like William and Kate's was, which means that heads of state for other countries are not being invited. I think I saw somewhere that it isn't even a bank holiday in the UK (i.e. businesses are expected to be open as usual). The guest list is supposedly only family, friends, and a limited number of British citizens.

The short answer is, we aren't. Traditionally the British do not invite the sitting US President, or, as far as I know, former Presidents, to Royal weddings. Reagan got an invite for Charles and Dianna's wedding (I suspect Thatcher leaned on the Royals to send him one to strengthen ties) but didn't attend though his wife Nancy did. Eisenhower had to be talked into sending a wedding present for Princess Margaret's wedding because he wasn't invited. I think he sent them an ashtray.

For that matter no British politicians are invited to the wedding either. So the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will not be sitting in that church. Which makes sense, if you invite May you have to invite the leaders of the other major parties so it doesn't seem like you are supporting one party over another. The Royals are expected to be as apolitical as humanly possible after all.

The Obamas do get along quite well with the Royal family by all accounts, but I don't think they fit into the close friends or family category.

Now if the Royals had invited all the leaders of Europe and all the former Presidents but had specifically left Trump off the invite list... well yeah. That would be a snub. This is just a wedding though. Understandable the Royals want to avoid politics as much as possible.

Because this prince will not be head of state. Therefore, no need to invite heads, or former heads, of state.
