Yep. Cant disagree with that. The NYT has an exhaustive piece that was 18 months in the making that chronicled in amazing detail the history of man made global warming. From the recognition of its existence to it going mainstream in the 1980s to what was potentially our last best chance to avoid a very different planet earth in the late 1980s under Bush I (one that is coming very soon, in the next few decades). It is an incredible article. Or rather small book as it seemed around 50 pages or so with hundreds of quotes from all the key players.
ETA: Here it is. Truly an eye opening and amazing piece of work IMO.

Wikipedia is an excellent source for taking a cursory look at any subject. That Greer is a ufologist is a turn off for me. That's not science.

This is classic conspiracy theorist "evidence." Supposed anecdotes from "high ranking individuals" is seeming gold for them. No matter that the anecdotes are taken out of context, jokes or even outright lies, when a prominent person even addresses the topic it's proof positive that aliens exist. Secret is one of the most-used words in any conspiracy theory. It seems to have a mesmerizing effect on some people.
The best way to determine if a person is susceptible to conspiracy theories is to whisper to him or her, "Let me tell you a secret."

Definition of scientific evidence: Results when a theory or hypothesis is tested objectively by other individuals such as in an experiment or in a controlled environment. This is called peer review.
Stephen Greer, M.D., does not engage the scientific community because he knows his theories are not based on science, only on hearsay and his own musings. They could not withstand peer review, if any science organization would even deign to examine such outlandish claims.
TRT, you have to know that my entire life is grounded in science. The study of science is reductionism. It's the search for how things work. When someone such as Greer, and there are legions of conspiracy theorists, puts out bold claims like his, the scientist in me automatically scrutinizes them and looks for the following:
1. Did he use the scientific method?
2. Where are the data?
3. Where are the peer reviews?
None of this is evident in Greer's works, or any other conspiracy theorists' works for that matter.
About half of the population of humans seem vulnerable to conspiracy theories. LINK
This phenomenon is not new but seems more prominent these days because of the increasing rapidity of technology developments that are widening the gap between scientific reality and the delusions of grandeur exhibited by charismatic individuals such as Steven Greer, M.D.

No amount of formal education, as evidenced by the Steven Greer example, seems to suppress the need for some people to apply their own wild ideas to the real world. Worse yet, they think their own reasoning is evidence for the existence of their ideas. It's like a feedback loop in their brains is out of control.

Depending upon one's perspective, Dr. Oz is a genius. To be successful in popular culture you have to have a gimmick. Oz is raking in money hand over fist by peddling snake oil to the ignorant masses. I'm positive that he knows exactly what he's doing.
