My Rep in Montreal was a big John Grissom fan. He would call and ask questions about things in the books. I got an email one afternoon. Coming to Florida these are things I want to experience while I'm down there.

First of all, The southern states don't consider Florida a part of the south.

Grapefruit and Oranges grow on my trees .....We'll pick some while you are here.

Grits .......do you really want to try grits? He tried them ......"No taste" "Well some people think you can use them for wall paper paste. " He did what anyone from Quebec would do .......drown them in maple syrup .....That worked.

"I want to speak with someone with a southern accent' ......'I'll let you talk to my Mom.' (Birmingham) Not good enough. He called from Texas "I found people with southern accents!" "No, that is a Texas Twang, not southern. ....He was headed to Mississippi ......Called, "Is this .the accent?" "Trouble Jean Guy, is that we can distinguish each accent. Since you end in Mississippi, we'll call that your accent you are looking for" End of the Easter egg hunt .....

back in the 80s i moved to Tampa and was living with an AU grad buddy of mine who grew up in extreme north central AL

one of the first things he told me was “don’t expect to find decent barbecue down here, these goddam yankee transplants dont know how its done”

I wasn't raised with them but have had them just never cared for them. Not a bash.... Kind of like the Dakotas I didn't like what they call Tiger meat which is raw hamburger and some spices.

Clark14 Grandma used a lot of bacon grease when she cooked. Man that brings back Great memories.

Saying "I'll tell you what" before making a demonstrative statement of strong conviction while still being unsure of all the details.

Eating grits is still pretty southern. They have become more common outside of god's country but they are usually in something else or used as a bed for plating something....not spooned over eggs in the morning or served alongside fried fish as a regular side....

Know someone actually named Atticus, Scout or Erskin. Bonus points if you know a Eudora or a Joel Chandler....

Know where to get crickets in a hurry. Never know when you will need a tube of crickets.

Find bream beds by smell. This will lead one to need a tube of crickets.

Know what a bream is.

Know where Hank Williams was born and that he and Tennessee ain't kin....and why Don Williams sang about both of them....

Can sing along with Alabama songs when you're lucky enough to hear one

Like collard greens without any irony

Understand the significance of Macon, Augusta, Thomson and Athens Georgia as it relates to proper music.

Have eaten a pig ear sandwich and would do so again.

Have eaten a slug burger and would so again.

Will eat pigs feet when opportunity presents itself.

Know damn well that any variety of pea is a gift from god to man

Be weaned on the nectar of the gods that was created in a drug store in Atlanta....know what the street name is for that delightful concoction.

Know that a moon pie and a RC will solve a lot of problems in life.

Know who the Ledbetter's are and how a fertilizer salesman from Mississippi graciously gave them to the world....
