We’re so oriented from birth to think of north as up that maps such as these can be unsettling to some people. Think of south as up and north as down. We float on a sphere in space so there is no true up or down geographically. Intellectually we know that but experientially we get habituated and our mental visual spatial relations can become confused when we suddenly see a different representation of reality.

Yeah, Kentucky and Missouri are way down north while the rest of the SEC states are up south.

This is what’s wrong with politics. People experience the same reality but interpret it radically differently.

I love geography and this map is disorienting as hell.

It's still a myth even if you turn the map upside down.

I started the thread after becoming disoriented myself while searching for info on how the Aussies view the world. I assumed they would see the South Pole as the top of the world. However, they seem satisfied with their “down under” status, opting to use maps with the southern hemisphere at the “bottom” of the globe.

If adopting this map means the PNW will suddenly start getting hurricanes and the Southeast will get temperate weather, I support this map
