There were others, like a Townes Van Zandt who get severely overlooked who really wrote the shite they sang.

I'm just shocked your uppity Yankee arse has heard of Townes Van Zandt

That dude lived HARD, the day before his death he was doing shots in the hospital lobby as he left to avoid withdrawals.

90s-early 2000s Pat Green was the he pinnacle of Texas country. "Three Days" is the best album ever to come out of that genre IMO.

I even like Nashville Pat. I know that's contradictory to the premise of this thread, but it ain't bad.

One of the most interesting conversations I ever had was with Townes and Ray Wylie Hubbard

First song I learned to finger pick was a Townes song.

I loved the story about him picking up a revolver that had a bullet in it, spun it, and pulled the trigger 3 times while pointed at his head.

Grandpappy (Is that you say it down there?) had Townes albums. Listened to it when I was a kid. Carried it through to today.

Randy Rogers Band is my favorite band. I've seen them live 4 or 5 times. They're great. For those who have never heard of them and are interested, start with:

Kiss me in the dark
Buy myself a chance
Before I believe it's true
Speak of the devil
Interstate

At their last concert I was a little zoned out at the time and was looking away when I felt something hit my chest. They threw a pick and it went in my polo and got stuck. Pretty cool memento.

If you haven't heard Sturgill Simpson, you need to check him out as well. He's the most "authentic" country act out there going.

Meh. As far as acts from Alabama, I like Adam Hood the best.

I am not bothered in the slightest by pop rock, pop country, or any new music. They aren't destroying music, genres evolve, it happens. There are plenty of artists making new music that conforms to any genre's status quo as far back as 1900. What plays on the radio has always, always been "pop" whatever. The Beatles were teeny pop when they started.

Not to get too much into the pits of music debate, but new music stopped bothering me when I stopped listening to the radio and got a spotify premium account like an adult.

That's like saying you like microwaved hot pockets more than legit good pizza.

Those two aren't even remotely in the same league in terms of talent.

I saw the turnpike troubadours tonight in concert. pretty enjoyable from a guy who gave up on country when Kenny Chesney became legit.

Why this isn't part of today's country on the radio is tragic for the genre.

Beneath Still Waters

Together Again

Sweet Memories
