A lot of those 80s pop songs were fricking great. Underappreciated by most people who grew up listening to them, but there's a reason why modern pop is going back to that same melodic synthesized sound of the 80s. It's because it was awesome.

Imagine.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

It's a great song and I like the video a lot but I can't say it's the GOAT.

This probably comes as close as any song in terms of it's long term impact on rock music: Layla

80s pop songs managed to get by without having some awkward bridge where a talent-less black dude talks over the beat nonsensically for a few bars.

It seems standard in all pop music today.

The Eagles sucked. While I'm at it, U2 is intolerably terrible as well.

70's and 80's music was the GOAT. Very few have musical or singing talent today that are "stars"
