Where else would this be but Florida?

A premature baby is fighting for his life in a Florida hospital after being born in a hotel bathtub during his mom’s crack binge.
37-year-old Chrystal A. Hassell, who has a history of drug abuse, had vowed to give up drugs during her pregnancy this time around. Instead, she spent the weekend in a hotel room getting high.

I was going to comment on the actual story, but hen I made the mistake of scrolling down to the comments and here is the first one...
Sad part is it had 21 upvotes. It is absolutely fricking ridiculous that this line of thinking is widely accepted.

'm Sorry??!!? but where was the help with prenatal care, rehab support for the mother. Surely the authorities knew her history. I know it is hard for addicts. This poor woman was left to fend for herself, fighting an addiction, ends up giving birth on her own, alone, in pain without help. She did the right thing by dialling 911. She ends up in jail for neglect. The poor woman is being punished instead of being supported. This is typical thinking, kick em when they are down. frick the poor white trash with an addiction.

Lets hunt down and kill the man who laid with her.

I'm afraid that's not possible at the moment...he's in jail in Colorado. I was shocked to read it in the article.
You're right though poor gal is entitled to better. I wish I lived in Florida so that my tax money would go to help her out.

Jail is too good for that a-hole.
In the meantime, I've started a Facebook page where people can donate money to support her medical bills, psych appointments, child's education and her meth habit.

After being in Florida for the past week and watching the local news...now seeing this. Florida has to be the trashiest place in America.

Link me to it when you get the chance so I can donate. I'm going to see if I can get her plight trending on twitter.
We're two fine Americans, bro.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this, but you're suggesting someone should have shown up to help her? If so, how much more help do you want to give a 37 year old with a drug problem that has already done the same thing through two other pregnancies? It isn't the tax payers job to create a giant safety net to catch these people (adults) who decide to frick up their lives. It seems to me that is at least part of the reason she's in this predicament.
Anyway, there are plenty of charitable organizations out there that she could've gone to. The only victim here is the child who had no choice, not the selfish mother.

When it comes to someone addicted to drugs, you can try to help all you want but until they're willing to accept that help there's nothing you can do. And there's a lot more drug treatment assistance out there for people in poverty then there are mental health services.

Are you surprised? If you aren't a large corporation or a white male you are automatically the victim.

The vast majority of Americans today have no common sense, no sense of personal responsibility.
