The chart is referencing the number of Google searches for Barbie vs Oppenheimer, not the attendance. I'm not going to feel the need to Google the plot of Barbie before the old lady drags me out to it, but maybe that's just me.
The idea about the ratio of women to men in each state is probably a solid theory, though. Also probably a lot more hate searches for Barbie in the South with all the talk about it corrupting the youth and whatnot.
