It's a bit "out" there.

According to a show I saw on Investigation Discovery awhile back they actually have somewhat of a gang problem believe it or not.

They call themselves the “Black Slack Boyz”.

I love it but I’m skiing when there. It’s a little different but people are polite.
If you’re a drinker they have funny laws. You can’t grab a couple beers and bring them to table. You’ve got to get one at a time and their beer has a lower acohol content. Even domestics.

Nope. They just changed that law. LINK /
Like ever large City, it has its pluses and minuses. The OP didn't define what the considered "good." If you're going to a game a Vivant arena, the train has stops there. The downtown Marriott and several other hotels are within walking distanc. But again, with the light rail stop right there it really doesn't matter.
Good luck, and if the OP ha's any specific questions I'll do my best to answer them. Downtown is a bit out of my wheelhouse, but I know enough to be dangerous.

Good deal. I don’t drink but found that to be pretty odd. I enjoy the city. Love Alta and snowbird also.

The Gangs are mainly on the west side, but yes, you're right.
And homelessness is a big issue here. Esp, with the opioid crisis. Other cities in the region have been known to give people bus tickets here and tell folks that, "The Mormons in SLC will take care of you."

My mama once told me of a place
With waterfalls and unicorns flying
Where there was no suffering, no pain
Where there was laughter instead of dying
I always thought she’d made it up
To comfort me in times of pain
But now I know that place is real
Now I know it's name
Sal Tlay Ka Siti
Not just a story mama told
But a village in Ooh-Tah
Where the roofs are thatched with gold
If I could let myself believe
I know just where I’d be
Right on the next bus to paradise
Sal Tlay Ka Siti
I can imagine what it must be like
This perfect, happy place
I’ll bet the goat-meat there is plentiful
And they have vitamin injections by the case
The war-lords there are friendly
They help you cross the street
And there’s a Red Cross on every corner
With all the flour you can eat
Sal Tlay Ka Siti
The most perfect place on Earth
The flies don’t bite your eyeballs
And human life has worth
It isn’t a place of fairytales
It's as real as it can be
A land where evil doesn’t exist
Sal Tlay Ka Siti
And I’ll bet the people are open minded
And don’t care who you’ve been
And all I hope is that when I find it
I’m able to fit in
Will I fit in?
Sal Tlay Ka Siti
A land of hope and joy
And if I want to get there
I just have to follow that white boy
You were right, mama
You didn’t lie
The place is real
And I’m gonna fly
I’m on my way
Soon life won’t be so shitty
Now salvation has a name
Sal Tlay Ka Siti

Strangest, most white place I’ve ever been to. It’s a beautiful area though. Are you planning to ski? Sightsee? What time of year?

Yes, I think so, especially if you like outdoor activities. Gorgeous setting, especially up in the canyons with the mountains all around.

This. They have different rules depending on their license. For example the hotel bar might have to sell you a .35 cent bag of pretzels if you aren’t eating anything else. My suggestion would be to extend your trip and spend a night or two in Park City. Even if you don’t ski Main Street is a lot of fun, and much more loose than your stereotype Utah town.

Was in park city last week...Main Street in Park City is the shite and the women are hot AF.
Drinking laws are weird and almost seem made up and different each time.
Park city > Salt Lake City
