If y'all like fantasy, lord of the rings type, check out the Elric of Melniboné saga by Michael Morrecock

You're very welcome. My apologies I spelled that wrong, it's Michael Moorecock. I first read it in college and loved it

Haven't gotten that far yet.
I've read Kennedy, Patton, Lincoln, and I think one more, but I can't remember which one.
They were all really good.

Maurice Druon - Accursed King series follows French Noblity leading up the 100 Years War.
Anything from Erik Larson
Edgar Rice Burroughs - Tarzan, John Carter
Alexandre Dumas - Classics, just fun reads
James Rollins - Sigma Six series is like if Indiana Jones started a covert ops division of the military.
Frank Herbert - Dune, enough said.
Patricia Cornwell - Murder mysteries in Richmond Virginia. I use her books as palette cleansers, still fun reads if your into mysteries.
Stieg Larrson - The Millennium series
If you're looking for fantasy and sci-fi authors, go buy an anthology of short stories/novellas and pick them out that way. It's a good way to get a variety of authors to choose what to read next.

One of my favorites too, i don't recommend it first very often as it has some major and glaring flaws (repetitive braid tugging and commentary being two of the most major ones) but is still my favorites as I started reading them in about seventh grade.

Try Terry Brooks and the Shannara stories. There are over 20 books. After LOTR, this is my favorite set to read. I have read most of them 3 or 4 times over the years.
Also, M-TV had a season made from the 2nd book (Elfstones of Shannara) that you can watch on Netflix. It is really good =)

I could never stand Terry Brooks, I felt like I was reading a way less good verson of LOTR
ETA: I read this over and realized it made me sound like a dick. Sorry bro, it's just my personal opinion. Lots of the authors I like are hated by tons of people.

I am a true crime fan. Lot's of mob stuff and cartel. I am currently reading about the smugglers in the 70's-80's
Kings of Cocaine
Smuggler
Thai Stick
Blow
Smugglers Blues
The Smuggler's Ghost
American Desperado
Buccaneer
then some that move on into the CIA conspiracy and the drug war
Smuggler's end
Barry and the Boys
The Big White Lie: The Deep Cover Operation That Exposed the CIA Sabotage of the Drug War
Deep Cover: The Inside Story of How DEA Infighting, Incompetence and Subterfuge Lost Us the Biggest Battle of the Drug War
For Mafia stuff try Scott Deitch he has great Florida Mob stuff you never heard of
Cigar City Mafia
The Silent Don
Balls
More mob books
Double Cross: The Explosive Inside Story of the Mobster Who Controlled America
When the Mob Ran Vegas
If I just want to read and not think -
Carl Hiaasen and Randy Wayne White both Florida authors. I grew up here in FL so their stuff is great for me.

I've been recommended to read Cigar City Mafia more than once. Tampa has an interesting history. I've been living in North Pinellas since I was eight years old.
On another fantasy note, I used to like George RR Martin a whole lot but his flippant attitude towards getting his books out on any kind of schedule and his antagonistic attitude towards his fans has really soured the whole experience for me. I used to say that I wasn't going to watch the show until all the books were out but I have since gone back on this and watched the entire series. I no longer wait with bated breath for the next installment.
We're talking about an author who I have been reading since about 2005, before anyone but fantasy we even knew who he was. I don't think the show was even being talked about back then. I guess it just goes to show you how an author's attitude and behavior can affect the whole experience.

If you have any interest at all in local history or mob stuff they are all interesting. I have met Scott a couple of times and he is a wealth of knowledge.

One author I've seriously come to love is Brandon Sanderson
Was also going to recommend him. I have loved the Stormlight Archive series so far, and also read the Mistborn trilogy. I'm about to start the 3rd book in the Alloy of Law series.

Never really liked Martin as much as others.
Malzan is my favorite / best it is a tough read though and unique - but totally worth it if you enjoy something completely unique. He doesn't spoon feed info so you kind of have to go searching for info - I find that a plus but other people don't enjoy that. Books 2 and 3 of that series may be my top 2 fantasy novels I've ever read.
WOT is also a favorite Book 3 - 7/8 or so is an amazing run of fantasy novels. The series got a bit too big (I think Robert Jordan's illness was also likely a contributing factor) but the final Jordan novel and Sanderson's three contributions were all good reads and tied up a massive story nicely.
