Gulf Coast shrimp, oysters, and crab beg to differ. Not to mention redfish, mahi mahi, etc fresh gulf fish
Do you really think these things are only in the Gulf?

You're right. But LA and MS folks know the taste that we prefer in seafood.
Seafood caught closer to the MS river has a certain flavor. It's like NY guys who brag that NY pizza is unlike any other. The crappy river water that they use in their dough gives NY pizza a certain taste. Same with LA/MS seafood. The closer it is to that brackish backwater, the better the flavor

Or are exclusively the only things categorized as "seafood"?

As much as it chokes me to say it, North Carolina has the best--both vinegar and tomato based.
1. 2. Tennessee (including Vandy)and Mississippi
4. South Carolina
5. Georgia
5. Texas (though I ain't wild about beef bbq)
7. Louisiana
7. Alabama
Rest tied for 9th or last. Kentucky, Florida, Missouri

Put GA where AL is and AL either where GA is or maybe just 6th by itself and I'd probably agree with this list. ETA: Missouri would be around AL/TX.

You realize there are tons of Salt Marshes and Tidal Creeks from Tidewater Va to Savannah right?

The carrot soufflé is so damn good and is easily one of the best sides I've had at a BBQ joint. He's just missing the burnt ends from Tejas, but those probably weren't available that day anyway.
It blows my mind how some think pork and to a lesser extent chicken are the only true bbq meats. What a crock of ignorant shite. I guess it's not unlike some Texans who scoff at pork, but that has more to do with most joints here not doing a good job with it. There are exceptions, especially like Corkscrew in Houston. That duroc pork is killer.

I can attest that Kentucky BBQ sucks. They have no idea what proper pulled pork is. Watery mushiy bbq sauced sloppy joe style pulled pork is not the proper way.

Beef is great for steaks but if BBQ is not pork then it just sucks. Sorry no arguments accepted.
True statement, however I would add brisket into the BBQ realm.
There ain't much on a hog that can't be served up BBQ style.

BBQ means cooked on a frame over a fire. Do you cook bacon this way?
Beef works better as BBQ, but I prefer BBq'd pork

BBQ is a staple of the Midwest as much as it is the south. You're probably right about Louisiana, but I'll still take our food over BBQ

My favorite BBQ place in Atlanta (Fox Bros) was started by two guys from Texas. I like Daddy Dz as well.
This is my favorite as well. They took the texas based sauce and blended with the vinegar of the southeast and made it amazing.
I've also been to Scotts BBQ in Hemmingway, SC as well as almost all the others in South Carolina.
There is one thing on this board people need to understand about South Carolina: They have more pride for a state that has so little to be prideful for. The mustard based bbq sauce is only in the Columbia region for a reason, it isn't very popular.
However, Scott's, Sheely's and others in the state know how to slow cook some pork.

Bacon is not BBQ, just like a steak is not bbq. You do however cook the part of the hog that becomes bacon that way if you bbq the whole hog. You are much more apt to see a whole hog bbq than a whole cow IMO. So, his statement is accurate.

Huh, I guess you're right. My apologies Bass Tiger.
I've read different accounts on the term "barbecue"
Some say it comes from a French term meaning "to cook the entire animal"
& others say that it comes from an old Spanish word for an outdoor grill.
I say it means "the man does the cooking"

I think the most general definition would be to cook slowly over an open flame an animal whole or in large sections, often basted in a sauce or rub.
That covers most types of what different cultures consider bbq.

That definition allows for you to bbq hamburgers and corn and eggs. To bbq it has to be low indirect heat with smoke doing as much cooking as the heat itself. It also has to be a meat with a significant fat content to allow for a slow render.
