I dont know whats up with it, it has worked 100% for my wife too. Two straight Rainer(s) and two straight Flareons.

Restart your game after renaming it but before evolving it. I'm hearing others saying the same thing and it's because the servers have been really glitchy the past couple of days. It doesn't register that you renamed it.

In the damn snow. When the electricity was working. It was still a pretty novel thing back in those days so the arcade was sometimes just playing jacks in the parking lot.
