Petrino had lightning strike twice for him as a coach. When he landed the Arkansas job we just happened to produce the greatest in state class of WRs ever for the state and an NFL level QB fell into his lap. At Louisville he managed to land the perfect QB to run the RPO offense when no one could defend it.
Unfortunately for him the rules changed on the RPO and he finally stayed in one place long enough for his recruiting woes to catch up to him. Add to that Stoops slowly but surely building a very solid team down the road at Kentucky and the writing was on the wall.
The next Head Coach at Louisville has his work cut out for him. I have a feeling that first year is going to be a lot like the year Chad Morris just had for Arkansas... all you can do is sign as much talent as possible and hope the year isn't too awful.

been driving around KY today for work listening to Sports Talk - and the amount of bleeding vaginas whining about Brohm is astounding.

The Brohms are a Louisville football institution. At the high school level all three of them played at Trinity, played college ball at Louisville and coached at Louisville or Trinity. They're given the same reverence as the harbaughs (wherever they're from). Which makes it all the more hilarious for me, but that's why they're freaking out.

I don't blame Brian at all. Louisville is a monster mess that won't be cleaned up in a year or two, and while they have very few fans overall, they will start screaming after 2 years of .500 ball, and there is no way he could do better than that.
Let someone else clean it up, and if he hasn't moved higher on the coaching ladder in 4-5 years, he can go back.

Once he ran out of Charlie Strongs guys and of course Lamar it was the beginning of the end.
This sounds strangely familiar to somewhere else he coached. Except for the D line. What is funny is when the next coach ran out of his defensive players he was fired though.
