Going to a wedding next weekend in SC and coming back and staying a day/night in Savannah. I'm going to be with some older people who aren't really immobile but won't be able to do a whole walking tour or something that involved a lot of stairs etc. We would like to see some of the history of the place and I've been on tripadvisor and saw some of the tours listed. I know we'd like to see the cathedral. Any suggestions on the best tours? And restaurants? Etc.

Go to the Funky Brunch in the morning. It's awesome. Treylor Park is awesome for dinner, The Chive has great seafood, but it isn't cheap. The river boat cruises are nice. They have a dinner service and you get to see the city from the river. Look up the trolley tours. They'll show you Chippewa square. That's where Forrest Gump waited for the bus.

Jones Street is "America's Most Beautiful Street". They might like that.

There are ghost tours you can go on. City Market is nice during the day. I wouldn't go at night if your crowd is a little older. That's one of the bar scenes. Most bars have clear cups so you can take your drink to go. If it's in a clear plastic cup you're all set.

The Pirate House is another tourist restaurant. Pirate themed of course.

If there are 2 things that I know Lew loves, it's bald heads and Treylor Park.

Mrs Wilkes Boarding House for lunch. Take a bus tour afterwards...You won't want to be walking after that meal I promise.

A question on the food recs- seems totally cheesy but people in the group have sort of wanted to go to Paula Dean's is it worth it? I'm assuming you all think not since you haven't mentioned it.

I've never eaten there but it's right by City Market. Grab a bite and have a beer in CM. The live bands might be playing by then.

Pick up a copy of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil , a non-fiction work by John Berendt. It's a great read after a visit to Savannah.

If you were raised on country cookin'/southern food, I wouldn't do Paula Deen's. It was very run of the mill to me. If you're from Boston or Tokyo you will probably love it though.

Oh well hope the board or the warden likes you then. Carry on the good fight and remember there's no Butcher Boy down there.

It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either, and I ate there years ago before she got really popular. There are better options, but if the group insists, there are worse places you could go.

It's not bad, by any means, but don't expect to be overwhelmed. Most of it is just stuff your grandmother made, but in buffet size quantities.
