BTW I am not referring back to this information from grade school or even high school but from college classes where I have had over 12 hours in US History and numerous papers and research on the subject.

Yep, I had you pegged for one of those revisionist history academics.

The fact is that you can always do research that will support your position. For example I can provide all sorts of documentation that supports the fact that the rift was over slavery, and that the issue was not one of states' rights. All you have to do is read the various articles of secession documents and the CS Constitution to see what it was all about.

But 'academics' such as yourself want to obfuscate the issues with faulty logic and diversions. I wonder how long your kind will be around.

Here's why Mississippi seceded:

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.

Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world.

Here's why Georga seceded:

The people of Georgia having dissolved their political connection with the Government of the United States of America, present to their confederates and the world the causes which have led to the separation. For the last ten years we have had numerous and serious causes of complaint against our non-slave-holding confederate States with reference to the subject of African slavery. They have endeavored to weaken our security, to disturb our domestic peace and tranquility, and persistently refused to comply with their express constitutional obligations to us in reference to that property, and by the use of their power in the Federal Government have striven to deprive us of an equal enjoyment of the common Territories of the Republic.

Here's where the CS Constitution restricted States' rights:

Section 3:

3. The Confederate States may acquire new territory, and Congress shall have power to legislate and provide government for the inhabitants of all territory belonging to the Confederate States, lying without the limits of the several States; and may permit them, at such times, and in such manner as it may by law provide, to form states to be admitted into the Confederacy. In all such territory, the institution of negro slavery as it now exists in the Confederate States, shall be recognized and protected by Congress, and by the territorial government; and the inhabitants of the several Confederate States and Territories, shall have the right to take to such territory any slaves, lawfully held by them in any of the States or Territories of the Confederate States.

I agree up to a point. When it comes to the confederate flag/symbolism, I think it does need to be banned from government/political seats. Those platforms are supposed to represent a diverse populace and IMO fail to do so by clinging to divisive symbols.

On private grounds or memorials, I have less of an issue. You're never going to be able to ban the flag. But like Monty was saying, the more fervently many cling to such an over symbol of oppression, and, frankly, anti-American sentiment, the more selective I'll be of keeping their company.

anti-American sentiment,

That's what it boils down to me. Flag was used in battle vs the United States of America. Those people killed people carrying the AMERICAN FLAG...no different than the terrorists, enemies we fight today.

Also they EXECUTED black soldiers. Didn't keep them as POW's, etc like the white soldiers. Black soldiers caught fighting for the United States were executed!!

But the flag doesn't represent hate when you murder and execute one race fighting for the U.S. but keep the white people alive!

People do know there's a star on the confederate flag that reps Missouri. Missouri was fighting 'yankees" before the civil war even started. Missouri vs Kansas was the precursor to the civil war. Guess they don't teach that in dixie. Heard of John Brown, bleeding Kansas, lawrence burning to the ground, border wars, trying to turn Kansas into slave state, Missouri compromise, Dred Scott, etc. Missouri repped the south, Kansas repped the North.

Weren't those people doing the executing called Rebels? That's the hypocrisy in all of this.

Get out of here with all that prejudiced shite. Why would you think ANY American hasn't learned about all of those things? Just because I'm from the Deep South?

NEWSFLASH: It would straighten your hair to learn what they taught kids in the Orleans Parish Public School system back in the 70s.

That statement is blatantly false, and no amount of you saying otherwise will make it so.

In no way is it false. The context of incorporating the rebel flag on several state flags was done as an act of defiance against the north following Reconstruction as well as a nod to the historical ties to the South. It was not implemented to condone a hideous, unforgivable act of murder that took place in the late 90s, as you seem to imply for some reason. There are several similarly evil hate crimes blacks have committed against whites that are more recent. Those are equally as irrelevant. Despite your pathetic, apoplectic ramblings, this position does not make me racist.

If the state had a non-controversial flag, such as the one Louisiana proudly files, the students at the State University would not have taken a vote. Is that really hard for you to understand?

What's hard for you to understand is your whiny tirade about not being able to come up with a non-controversial flag is of little relevance to the issue of this thread. The issue is that cowboys and Indians delegates at a state-funded institution voted to take down a state flag. Not what you incorrectly perceive to be a white supremacy flag, a state flag. But feel free to call me a racist or make up some strawman about me not caring about "40%" of the population.

What's sad is you're from the one state that makes LA look better at everything. Congrats on the melt though.

Anyone notice the ad for a Confederate Flag at the bottom of this page? Is Chicken going to ban that advertiser?

The ads are usually tailored to your search history.

Maybe you should start searching for porn instead.

That's so nice of you. But if it makes you feel better, I will live to see a day in which I, a white Christian male, will be a member of a group that, despite helping invent the modern world, will ironically go down as the villains of history.

Why would I search for a Confederate Flag? I did search for Johnny Reb and found exactly what I thought I would find, though. They (OM) were referred to that often back in the 60s and 70s.
