What's the oldest continuously operating bar in your college town?

Fayetteville has George's since 1929 (although it wasn't technically a "bar" until after Prohibition was repealed.

Maxine's in Fayetteville has been operating since 1950.

So Fayetteville has a 90 year old and a 69 year old bar in our college district/downtown.

What's yours? (Mississippi didn't repeal Prohibition until the 1960s so they'll be at a disadvantage here).

Auburn had supper club, but it closed. Most of the other bars have changed hands so much. Id say probably Bourbon Street Bar is the oldest by far.

There is just something about an old college town bar that makes it a great watering hole. What are some of the older bars in Mizzou's neck of the woods?

Same with Tuscaloosa. Harry's is still open and just as trashy as it's always been, so my guess is its the oldest. Jackie's has also been around for ages. It may actually be older than Harry's. Not sure.

Yeah, but it's semi-new. Opened within the past decade or so.

I've never gone out in Auburn, but is your Bourbon Street Bar nicer?

The Athens one is nothing but a dark, dank freshmen shithole. Just wondering, but I've never had someone to ask.

Never been in the Auburn one, but just by walking past it it looks like your typical college shithole bar.

Jackie's is older.

The Chukker would have been the oldest if it had managed to survive eminent domain laws. The city didn't repeal prohibition until 1951 due to a strong local temperance movement. The Chukker was opened a couple of years after.

Prohibition was a very long dry spell for a college town that for 20 years in the 1800's was the state capital, where Governor John Gayle kept his gubernatorial office in a bar.

One in Auburn is weird, downstairs is dark, basement like, but has a stage for a band. Upstairs is just the old big restaurant with a long bar and a back deck. Like most college bars, the owner is frugal about nice upgrades like you would see in a bigger city.

Which is pretty much Auburns problem with most bars. The owners are only willing to give just enough attract a crowd

Would have been Jaco's a few years ago. It opened in 1912 and closed in 2017.
