Off-season Discussion - The Oklahoma Sooners

Just for a football only discussion. We know they Sooners owned the Big 12. Had a title under Stoops once, made the playoffs several times. Under what tier does/will Sooner football fall??
Are they in the Georgia/Alabama tier? I know Mojo probably says this is their place, is he right?
On the LSU tier (recent champ in 2019), SEC west champ I guess too.
Or are they regulated to an A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss tier (most all teams are here)? Stuck at 9-8 wins on good years recently. A few good year (10 win season) but not in the playoffs. Need to maintain good recruiting.
I personally think they would fit 4th, below Bama, Georgia, even LSU, but above everyone else. Is this their right spot to view them based on their success?

5th overall, 2nd or 3rd in the west.

So what is the 4th team you would slot ahead of them? I got UGA, Bama, LSU.

Auburn, Tennessee, Florida are all candidates here. OU could fall below all of these in some years.
History tells us that power programs moving up in conference don't usually maintain dominant status.
Florida State, Miami and Penn State are all examples of this.

UGA is on top
Bama is slowly declining but still clear #2
LSU has been on a 20 run if high level success
OU is 4th, at best. And likely behind UF soon. Gators in a rut right now, but that won't last forever. They'll contend again soon one way or another.
Tennesee could pass them up too. But too early to tell if last year was a fluke or not.
So OU probably settles in around 4th/5th range going forward IMO.

Yeah, you’re right. I forgot about them.

They should. They recruit better than us. They have Dallas locked down. We rely on Houston.

you spend more money than them, so you have no excuse

What’s that got to do with the topic? Man it’s the off-season bud, chill. This is why we can’t have discussions on this board lol this is supposed to be a non trolling discussion for the off-season.

Right now it’s Georgia and bama, shuffle the deck yearly on the rest.

I was wondering if SEC fans (not A&M or Mizzou) will give them credit for their Big 12 successful and they would be a Top 5 SEC team out the gate, or if they will be regulated to earning SEC stripes.

I fricking hate Oklahoma.. but they are a blue blood and while they will have some growing pains, they will figure it out. I don’t know if Venables is the right coach, but if he isn’t, they will move on quickly.
And for the all the Sooners reading this message..
49-0 bitches.

Their success is in the past in another weaker conference as was ours when we came here. I’m not comparing our programs by any means but the past is gone and the going gets a lot tougher from here on out.
Plus everyone will be gunning for these 2 new guys no doubt. We’ll see though, it won’t be easy.

Switzer, Stoops &, to a lesser extent, Riley were all excellent coaches. That said, their brand has been slowly dropping the last decade and Venables ain’t the guy to get them back. This jump to the SEC is bad timing and will open up their traditional recruiting footprint to more SEC programs.
I’d put their football program in tier three at the moment, behind Georgia, Bama, LSU, Tennessee, Florida & us.

They're 15th, right before Texas, until they prove otherwise.

You got LSU postured to dominate the West for the next few years. Then you have respectable programs such as Bama, A&M, Ole Miss that are better than OU.

They will either be stuck in football’s blue blood purgatory, yes, or they will compete.
I side to think that until TCU or SMU or to a lesser extent (A&M, tu or another SEC) loosens their strong hold on recruiting D/FT, I think they will compete.
