I have no idea what Obama's plan is, and I sure as shite did not watch a speech. Reform needs to happen in some capacity. Many of the illegals do a hell of a lot more for our economy than our ignorant entitlement class that look down on their nose at them.

Basically, starting in the spring you can register with the gov't if you've been in the country for at least 5 years. You will be required to pay taxes. You don't become a citizen but you are allowed to stay and not be deported.

Better put:

quote:

Obama laid out the changes he is making to immigration laws without the consent of Congress. A key element of his plan is to instruct immigration authorities to prioritize expulsion action against gang members, felons and suspected terrorists rather than law-abiding undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and residents and others.
The changes will offer those who qualify the chance to stay temporarily in the country for three years, as long as they pass background checks and pay back taxes. But they will not be offered a path to eventual citizenship or be eligible for federal benefits or health care programs. And, in theory, the measures could be reversed by a future president.

Obama said to deport the criminals. Are these parents criminals?

Correct me if I misunderstood him but the ones who come forward and register will be allowed to stay temporarily and pay taxes but not have citizenship and therefore no voting power correct?

In all honestly, his plan isn't bad at all. The outrage is partially how he did it, and partially "RAGE democrats liberalz RAGE" blind hatred.

He should have tried to get the republicans to distance themselves from their neo-con supporters and passed this in Congress. Bribing them with the idea of being known as the Congress that regained republican support from some in the minority community might have helped do the trick.

I see this as the biggest problem. Millions of illegals are paid in cash. They perform the work of employees, so they can't be hired as 1099able contractors by law.

How do you stop the under-the-table cash flows?

The anchor baby law needs to be repealed as part of any immigration reform bill.

Reagan, Bush 41 both took similar unilateral actions.

Obama has deported more than the last 3 or 4 administrations combined.

I think the Catholic Church needs to quit banning birth control in Mexico/Central America. They're just dumping their overpopulation on the U.S. Send all those orphans to the Vatican and let them work it out.

From what I've seen, it's certainly not a radical approach. Republican presidents have tried similar legislation in the past to no effect. The only immigration law the GOP would support is mass deportation (which is not possible) or execution.

US and Canada are the only developed countries that grant citizenship to those born there, even if the parents don't speak a word of English. Unfortunately illegal immigrants abuse that policy in the US. It's time to end that archaic policy now. No first world European countries allow that bullshite. It's hard to invade Canada geographically so Canada doesn't have much of a problem.

Also entire Canada's population (37 million) is less than one state of California's population (38 million), so they need all the people they can get.

If they really wanted to solve this problem they would make it illegal to hire immigrants with something like minimum fines of 10,000 per hire and jail time for people employing more than 2. Then you would stop the problem at its source and the river would dry up. So many people want to talk about illegal immigrants meanwhile taking advantages of all the cheap services they get by hiring them or companies that employ them like hypocrites.

I don't know what he said in the speech, but it is way too hard to enter this country legally and it needs to change.

Sweden. It will make you realize that the "illegal" problem we have here isn't a problem... at all.

I did not vote for Obama, I do not think he's done an overly bad nor good job over the last 6 years. I am a conservative independent that votes primarily Republican....

But I think Obama gave a great speach, spoke some truth, and I agree with what he is doing

You do realize removing the natural born citizen thing would require a constitutional amendment correct?

In other words, it ain't gonna happen.

Just close the fricking door and quit letting anybody waltz across the border. As far as the illegals already here:
Any money wired out of the country has 75% tax
No government assistance
No blaring that damn polka/circus music
Mandatory use of deodorant

I know an illegal that married a girl here and has a son with her. They have been going through the legalization process for at least 5 years and have around $10k invested in it with no end in sight. Dude has never been arrested, has been working in this country for about 10 years and has been paying taxes with a fake SS number.

The truth is, people claim that most illegals don't pay taxes but they still buy stuff and a lot of them pay income taxes via stolen SS numbers. They help the economy and the only way to deal with them without crashing this country is to grant them asylum and give them no benefits. Assign them temporary work visas that are good for 10 years (or whatever floats your boat) and at the end if you have a good work history and NO law issues, reissue the work visa another X years.

This country is full of lazy pieces of shite citizens, why not allow someone that is willing to work to be here?

I have personally seen illegals take the jobs of hard working Americans

Then I doubt they were truly hard working Americans.
