Moving to Nashville

I just found that I was selected for a new job in Nashville. Any suggestions on places to live other than Franklin or Brentwood. I have a son that is about to start kindergarten, so schools are important.
My office is on Broadway close to the Bridgestone Arena and the Ryman. I am use to a 30-45 minute commute, so I am looking to stay around that range.

Any area zoned for Percy Priest and Julia Green. That's the Belle Meade/Forest Hills area. (If you're not looking at Brentwood and Franklin).
You'll be in a good area, but you'll want them to get into Meigs and Hume Fogg magnets eventually (JT Moore middle and Hillsboro aren't great). Or you can send them private.

If you're looking for "good" public schools and a 30 minute commute, Brentwood (Williamson Co side) and Franklin are your two target areas. I know a few folks in Mt Juliet, and supposedly they have decent public schools.

i live in bellevue... my son will be in kindergarten next year... we have a great elementary school here -- harpeth valley. It's a nice place, and the cost of living isn't as high as brentwood and/or franklin.

Any reason why you are excluding Brentwood and Franklin? Or are you just wanting other suggestions as to where to look?
In my opinion, the Cool Springs area is where you need to be.

This. You can pay now or pay later.
If you don't sign up for the Williamson County gig you face a private school bill down the line (most of them are around 15-20k a year now).
Most of the homes zoned for Percy Priest or Julia Green are not that different in price range then some of the homes in Williamson Co.
If you don't plan to stay for more than elementary school, I agree with the Bellevue gent - Harpeth Valley is a good school (and the homes in Bellevue are probably 25-35% more affordable). We have some friends over there that have two young-uns and they seem happy (on the other hand we have another couple friend that is leaving for Williamson Co. (but they are pretty well healed)).
One man's opinion, but I would look for something shitty in Williamson Co. Its better for schools and safety (although there are still a couple of rough patches in Franklin).
If your dead set against Williamson Co. - Bellevue is growing along with Mt. Juliet (that's going to be a rough commute though). I have heard some good things about north of town (Sumner Co.) if you don't mind a longer drive.
ETA: I should probably state that I don't have kids (so maybe take shite I say with a grain of salt). We moved to B'wood planning for kids and it never really happened. If we can't get it done in the next few years maybe I'll give you a deal on our house (you always seemed like a nice fella).

I grew up the majority of my life in Nashville after my family left Louisiana.
But I'd suggest sending him to school in Williamson county. The school system is regarded as one of the best in the nation. I'd have suggestions on specific places, but I grew up in a different part so I'm not too familiar.
If you're not considering Brentwood or Franklin, then you may not like Bell Meade. It's a pretty wealthy area, similar to Brentwood and parts of Franklin. There are some good schools in Nashville though if you live over in the Belmont area. Over by 12th avenue. (stay away from 13th though) and definitely don't live in Antioch. That's where I'm from and not a place to raise a kid.
East Nashville is pretty trendy, but you'd be 15 or 20 minutes from work taking traffic into account and you'll be able to find a lot more affordable places to live.

Spring hill is up and coming if you don't mind the drive. A friend of mind just move to a very nice neighborhood in nolansville. I don't know anything about the schools there.

Nashville's nice. My only experience comes from being stationed at Fort Campbell with the 101st and spending the weekends partying there though.

I don't usually associate nice with Nolensville. Not saying there aren't nice parts, just one of those parts of town with a negative connotation.

Agreed. I grew up in Nashville too. Antioch used to be "fine." My best friend lived in the heart of Antioch. For a while that mall was even the shite. Now that place is scary bad. The gangs aren't even a nationality I recognize.

My boss lives in East Nasty. It's either well off extremely liberal folk or really poor folk. I would not recommend. Having said that though, I have a buddy with two kids who lives there and he said the magnet schools (which are really good) are under-applied for so it's not that much of a long shot (even though its a lottery system).

Most of Nolansville rd is sketchy for sure. By the zoo etc.
but I'm talking about the "town" of nolansville which is quaint and closer to concord road and governors club. Etc. basically the higher end of brentwood has expanded out that way.

Nolansville has definitely seen improvement. We are close (slightly to the west) and have enjoyed some of the new shite they have developed. Fricken love that Pie in the Sky.

I liked it more before it moved down the road to the bigger place. Wifey and I have only been a couple times since the move a few years back and haven't enjoyed it as much. Probably nothing to do really with the food (nostalgia is a MF).

if the 30-45 min commute is no bother then you can check out west of Davidson County, as far as Montgomery County. I live on the eastern part of the county and it takes me about 35 min to Broadway. Clarksville is located here and it's the 5th biggest city in TN, I believe, so there is stuff to do. The Sango community seems to be the most desired school and living area in Montgomery...just an option for you to check out

Mt. Juliet has great schools and is right at 30 minutes from Broadway. There is also a commuter train with a stop in Mt. Juliet. New homes are about $125 per square foot in Mt. Juliet and about $200 per square foot in Franklin.
