Going to let my parents be grandparents for a week. Booked a room for three nights at The White House on the beach in Biloxi.
Couple questions....Is Grand Bear the best golf course in that area? Any "can't miss" seafood or steak spots?
Just wanting a getaway to play golf everyday and have a few drinks. Not really a beach person, but because of my schedule I couldn't go back out to Grensboro, GA and play at the Plantation this year.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Everything on the menu good, or is there one particular thing there?

MM's is good and really know for anything "au gratin".
If you don't mind driving a ways I would recommend:
- Trapanni's over in Bay St. Louis (great little town coming back from taking the brunt of Katrina). I personally love their blacken steak tips.
- For a funky twist on sushi, go the Chef Scott's over in Ocean Springs (also another great downtown atmosphere). He also opened a Thia place called the White Lotus and heard its good but haven't tried it myself yet.

If you're a baseball fan and are there next weekend, you should check out the Shucker's new stadium.
They're playing the Mississippi Braves, so there should be a good crowd.

Not really a minor league fan.
This is strictly a golf every day, eat well, then drink on roof top trip.
How good is Ruth's Chris in Hard Rock?

Pretty good, I golf with the owner quite a bit. He holds them to some high standards.

You don't visit the MS coast to eat at Ruth's Chris!! Biloxi is known for some of the best seafood in the world.

Well...wtf do you think I started this thread?
I've never been to Biloxi, but wanted to make a quick 3 night trip some place and play golf. Found The White House in Biloxi and saw they had a bar and all on the roof. Wanted to check it out.
Ill eat at Ruth's Chris if it's the best steak down there.

What is the best course down there? I plan on playing Monday evening, And Tuesday and Wednesday weather permitting.
I'd prefer a different course each day. I found The Great Bear, or something. Also saw The Bridges about 30 miles west Id like to check out.

Fallen Oak is the best course. It's in Saucier and hosts an annual PGA tournament. It's affiliated with the Beau Rivage casino resort.

Unfortunately I haven't played down there. Typically when we golf it's in Oxford.

Okay. Thanks. I'll check that out

pretty sure you have to stay at the beau in order to play fallen oak. it's about $300/round
grand bear has slipped over the past several years but is still a really nice course and now is a pretty good value
i personally enjoyed my experience at half shell over mary mahoney's which is probably not popular opinion here. i have not been to trapani's since katrina but loved it before they moved (i think they have moved again since that time)

1) Grand bear
2) Windance
3) Fallen Oak
4) The Bridges
5) The Preserve
+ the Oaks on some days
These are the 5 best IMHO and should be played, after that the quality dips a bit but so does the price.
Next tier
Pass Isles
Dogwood Hills
Gulf Hills
+ way too many to list
To be avoided at all cost
Bayou Vista
Great southern
Sunkist
Have fun
ETA: forgot to add Shell Landing, they belong in the first grouping IMHO

It's a seafood/steak restaurant. Stick to either of those and you can't go wrong.
You won't be disappointed.

Darwell's in Long Beach is pretty famous locally and has some really, really good seafood.
It's a quirky little place that has live music most nigts at dinner and lunch on weekends.
IMO, it's worth the drive (bout 30 mins from Biloxi).
My house (which I'm selling, uninhabited at present) shares a fence with Darwell's, fwiw.
