Their burgers are just kinda okay, but their fries are amazing.

Their Wagu burger is really good. And I buy then from sweet deals $50 for $25.

Disregarding the premise of this post, the Baconator is the GOAT of fast food burgers.

But you never heard of Culver's?

Culvers is great! Used to love going there when I would visit my grandad in Iowa.

Depends on what part of Indiana he is in though. I lived north of Indianapolis for about 18 months, and I dont ever remember seeing a Culvers in my area or i would have been their #1 customer.

But anytime I would make a trip back to or from Alabama there was a location in Bowling Green, KY and a couple in southern Indiana that I would always make a point to stop at.

Not a chain, but Dyar's on Beale St with the 100 year old grease.
Have them dunk the whole bunch in that ooze and have at it.

The two best fast food burger chains are local Birmingham area chains.

Milo's and Jack's

If you don't live neat one then your life sucks

Not a chain, just a local place: Stafford's Big Burger in West Point is the best burger I've ever had.

I grew up going to Indiana and Illinois almost every summer, and never saw a Culver's. This was in the early to mid 80's though, so maybe they hadn't expanded there yet. Steak N Shake dominated Illinois, and southern Indiana seemed to only have really shitty Dairy Queens. Fast food wasn't as ubiquitous back then that I recall.

I was sort of north-central IN, halfway in between Indy and Lafayette but the shitty Dairy Queens were definitely a staple there too.

Until I was in Indiana I had no idea there were Dairy Queens that didn't have the actual restaurant part. The one in the town I stayed in only served ice cream, and if you were hungry the only food was plain boiled ballpark style hotdogs and a bag of chips

Apparently it's also a thing in the Midwest for franchise owned fast food places to just shut the frick down during the winter. That's understandable for the Dairy Queen that only serves ice cream and shitty hot dogs and is in a town with a bunch of other fast food places. But the small town my dad grew up in only had an A&W and they would shut down for literally 6 months out of the year. Next closest towns with any sort of fast food were a 30 minute drive and a 50 minute drive respectively. That's supposedly not uncommon either.

Last time I was up there 15 or so years ago, the DQ in my aunt's town had been upgraded to the ones you see down here. But back in the 80's it was mostly like you said. Mostly ice cream, except this one did sell hamburgers. They were just nasty, even to a 9 year old kid. But the DQ's down here were equally shitty back then. You only went there for ice cream.

I don't remember passing a single fast food place from Evansville to my aunt's town(Bloomfield) back then. You had to go to Bloomington for McDonald's.

Ward’s has just never done it for me. They’re not bad by any means, but just not my burger jam.

For those who are mentioning Culvers and asking about locations...according to there website there are:

15 in Kentucky
8 in Tennessee
3 in South Carolina
10 in Georgia
49 in Florida
32 in Missouri
11 in Texas

So, they are making inroads in SEC country.
