If you go to the university leadership to complain about these things happening, and they don't do anything about it, what do you do? Just sit back and accept it as an unchangeable fact of life?

Well, after this group filed complaints the university leadership kicked a student out of school.

This organization thought the leadership took too long to act.

That's bullshite.

Last night, Jonathan Butler was interviewed on CNN's Anderson Cooper. He went so far as to say that he felt unwelcome and unsafe the moment he stepped on campus. How is that possible?

He felt so unsafe that he stayed around for a graduate degree.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with killz.

Have you ever had black males in a passing car or in person hurl insults at you for being white?

I have...more than once.

I just chalked it up to ignorance and moved on with my life.

Killz, in this one you've made some excellent points. I think we all know Mizzou is no more racist than anywhere else. This whole situation was staged by Butler, a narcissistic, charismatic activist-in-training. I think it was his trial run - maybe part of his master's thesis project. From blowing specific incidents out of proportion to his "hunger strike", this was all well thought out. And it worked like a charm. Mizzou was not ready for that level of activism. Now, they will take it a few steps too far I think. Refusing to allow the media access was a bad move. And they will make some unreasonable demands that backfire. But they've caused change and forced the "oppressors in chief" out. With the help of the athletes - it could not have been done without them, I don't think. They don't realize they got used. Gotta hand it to him - he's good. He has a bright future ahead of him in professional organizing and agitating. I guarantee he's going to be advising other student groups on how to right the wrongs and address social injustices on their campuses. All for a fee, of course. Racism is wrong, and evil, and should be stamped out wherever it is found. But the extremists ultimately hurt their own cause.

I agree with you.

Killz,

After watching that student reporter getting harassed, I can only hope that Um gets swallowed up by the biggest sink hole ever known to man. I hope all those SJW bitches are at the bottom of that sink hole when the buildings and cars fall in it.

The entire university is nothing but an attention whore bitch.

So you think he should just take it and not try to do something about it? That's your recommendation to him? If he's taking a stand against it, that's the opposite of being a pussy about it.

Oh please, I will even go as far as saying that this guy is making this stuff up (about it happening to him). Where is the corroborating evidence? Were there any witnesses...he said he was alone. The one incident where there was some drunk white student yelling the word was dealt with according to the university's code at the time.

This guy was a useful idiot for someone else. Wolfe was probably threatening someone's money. It's always about the money. The protestors found a way to use the athletic department to counter the money threat from Wolfe....he probably thought about cutting the women/gender studies( the mean , big bad boy leered at me) curriculum or he was about to can Pinkel...follow the money on the first part.

You know, a lot of Mizzou fans hate me (Semo, Reedus, Kilo, you, etc.)...but when it comes down to serious discussions, you all have to admit that I nail the hammer on the head more often than not. I'm not afraid to speak to my mind and I'm not afraid to post an unpopular opinion.

I drive my own tour bus. I never allow myself to be a passenger on someone else's bus.

Some people don't like that, but that's not my problem.

I'm happy that we at least agree on this thread.

Exactly. Every single person on this planet has encountered some hateful idiot out there for some reason or another. That's not saying that I excuse racism, but acting like it's a systematic issue at Mizzou and that black students are unsafe is ludicrous. I have yet to see any evidence of the claims being made by Butler.

Yep, I sure have walked through a black neighborhood and had a dude on the porch telling me I wasn't welcome around there in a much less polite way than how I explained. Sh*t can happen to anybody.

Show us the evidence that has been cited anywhere that the alleged people in the alleged truck were known to be students at the university. Do the presidents at Alabama or Arkansas have the authority to do anything if some random Tuscaloosa or Fayetteville rednecks drive by and yell something at a student? They can't do anything about it. So, what should one do, you ask?

Yeah. I don't hate killz at all. Sorry to disappoint. I find killz highly entertaining, most of the time. But sometimes he takes it a few steps too far. And sometimes he's strange. But I still like him.

If some posters are correct, it seems that the protesters were a small minority of Mizzou students, why doesn't this vast silent majority rise up and take their university back? Are there no students pissed off enough about this to stage a mass demonstration of their own?

Or a woman. A black co-workers said something to me a couple of weeks ago that was highly racist, and trotted out the standard accusatory white privilege stuff. I didn't argue, just listened. Then rolled my eyes (to myself) and went about my business. It wasn't going to ruin my day, nor was I going to go complain about it.

Wrong.

I experience systemic hate from Mizzou fans on this site all the time because I'm different. Mizzou fans have hurled incredibly hurtful insults at me most of which were supported by Mizzou Board admins and longtime posters. I certainly don't feel the Mizzou Board and/or Mizzou fans to be welcoming.

All of it stems from a long history of hate in Missouri directed toward people who harbor different opinions or belief systems than the populace.
