For over 20 years the federal government has required a picture ID and registration from every licensed dealer in the country for every firearm transaction.

Since 1986, Federal law has forbidden a gun registry and it's been upheld in courts. San Fran is attempting to do just that with their law. The Gov't cannot and does not take or store information from 4473 forms that you fill out at dealers when purchasing a firearm. They are kept on the premises of the FFL dealer.

Also if you want to drive a car. But whatever.

You do not have a constitutional right to a car. The 2nd amendment gives citizens the right to own a firearm.

Actually you dont have to have a tag or insurance unless you travel (at any time) on or across a public road. I have a old jeep that has not had a tag in 7 years. It never leaves my farm. If it breaks down I drive my new truck to store and get parts and put them on. It never leaves the property and I have no interest in buying a tag.

What SF has done is in voilation of federal law, but that does not really matter because this administration only enforces laws it wants to. It does not do the proper thing and have congress change the law (because they probably could not get it through congress), they just ignore or add new regulation in ways contrary to existing law.

Examples of this would be this action we are discussing, amnesty, many EPA regulations.

1. drive, not own.

2. Car sales tax records could be used to create the list anyway.

3. The administration doesn't enforce laws.

4. You complain about the left trying to use legislation to try to stop something they don't like. I'm sure you were throwing down against all the crazy attempts at blocking Obamacare too.

5. For all the heart bleeding over the second amendment, I guess no one likes the 10th.

Does anyone besides me see the irony that SF doesn't want its citizens to be armed but Kate Steinle was murdered by a non citizen with a government employees firearm?

The above statement just is not factual

quote:

They are kept on the premises of the FFL dealer.

+

quote:

ATF officials first call the manufacturer, who reveals which wholesaler the company used. That may lead to a call to a second distributor before investigators can pinpoint the retail gun dealer who first sold the weapon. Gun dealers are required to keep a copy of federal forms that detail who buys what gun and a log for guns sold. They are required to share that information with the ATF.

=

defacto registry whether the records are stored in the dealer, at the ATF headquarters, or on the moon. The government has access to records of every firearm transaction in the USA already

This is what the government admits to by the way, we all know they would never gather and store any info illegally.

Yes, it is factual.

They don't have them in hand, at the discretion of a politician at their whim, such as Obama/Lerner.. if they wanted to single out people. They have to have a reason to request or get a court order for them. I've set up FFL's for folks. When they inspect, it's done on site and only done to make sure that records are complete. They (ATF) don't make photocopies or take the records off site.

What SF is doing is way above and beyond what is allowed by Federal law.

Good. This is America. If you don't agree with the majority of that local government, then don't live there.

ETA:

Restricting guns within city limits is a practice that has been employed as long a we have been a country.

And it is also a practice that has sparked revolution, rebellion, forcible displacement by the government of civilians, and the slaughter of innocents.

So it's okay if a bunch of local governments in the south make gay marriage illegal, right?
