I had no idea that's where that sound came from.
It explained a lifelong mystery for me. I now know what Mr. Van Zant was talking about.
Trailer here, movie available on Netflix.

Thanks.
You should post this on the music board to find a more receptive audience.

It was really good. I am from the Shoals area and I didn't even know that Percy Sledge was from there.
Some really good talent has come from that corner of the state.

I gotta see it. Heard nothing but good things. It's on Netflix right now too I believe.

It is a great documentary. David Hood (one of the main members of the band "The Swampers" that they spoke with a bunch during the documentary) is the father of Drive-By Truckers singer Patterson Hood.

Yea I always thought they were talking about mudding tires for trucks/jeeps when they said swampers in that song. Now I know...

Really good doc and very informative. I never knew all those musicians recorded there.

NATideFan needs to comment on this. That's his corner of the world, and he knows a lot about that music scene.

I grew up in the church Rick Hall attends. He is a character of sorts.

Great documentary... Great enough we took a day trip & toured both studios! Hubbies was even allowed to play a LS song on the grand in the "Fame studio" (dream come true for him) . The tour guides were great & told us stories not on the documentary... Like how Duane Allman camped out in a tent out back for days just to be a "extra"--- good stuff!!
