I'm trying to read reddit and start using it as a place to pass time and get involved but it's just too vast and complicated.

They've been murdered solely because of their sexual orientation throughout history and even today in some areas of the world.

Please don't equate race to sexual orientation.

This is perhaps the least intelligent thing I've ever seen couched as a "rational thought."

I don't even need to read the thread. At the end of the day, equality is equality. Race, Gender, Nationality, Family type, Sexual Orientation, all of these things are simply one facet of our being. If you discriminate based on any one, you are equally bigoted.

he shouldn't have opened his mouth, but he still has the right to think that way as long as he isn't causing direct harm to anyone

People have also been murdered for their political views. Or because they look like they might have some money. Or because Alabama lost.

That doesn't make it equivalent to a race.

Wouldn't this teacher be discriminated against because of his opinions?

Equality is equality, right?

Who, that isn't a bigoted piece of trash, talks like that? No one. It's not just my opinion. It's an opinion shared by many.

But he did open his mouth. He should have known better. He crossed a line.

He can think whatever he wants, but the minute that he opens his mouth and says those kinds of things to impressionable kids he's gone way over the fricking line.

Of course he has the right to think that way.. but he shouldn't be preaching in a classroom to students about gays and lesbians and god.

If for no other reason than separation of church and state.

Yep and it's unfortunate because there is a lot of good reddits and some decent discussion. Just too much crap for me to sift through

Please show me where that is in the Constitution.

The 1st amendment says gov't shall not impede on our right to freedom of religion.

That means the 1st amendment is what ALLOWS teachers to state their views. Not bans it. The man wasn't forcing every kid to agree with him, or else fail. No one's rights were violated. Jesus.
