ah ok must have read that wrong.
As I've said, I rarely read and my comprehension is bad.
Thought they were using the dog to intimidate a pledge and hit him

That's no fraternity.

real fraternity men don't abuse dogs

Cats are one thing. But man's best friend? Must be some big ten fraternity that wear their letters on sweatshirts.

Do y’all really trust the authors of that article to tell the truth?

Does that photo show anyone punching a dog?

frick no. The photographer/author basically says in the article that he started out not liking fraternity culture and then went in to the project with that perspective. I don't expect neutrality or honesty in any way from him and without a picture of someone abusing a dog I don't believe it happened.

I agree. I don’t believe that they were punching the dog.

You see a dog being held up and struggling (as any dog would do), and you see a bunch of guys in a pic with one hand on the left side of the pic. You don't see any hand making contact with a dog.

I did some really crazy and stupid shite in college and a lot of it was tied to my fraternity. But we never, ever would have tolerated animal cruelty, and wouldn't have tolerated anyone that took part in it.

A lot of it was but some of it wasn't and I'd bet that had you not been a fraternity you would still have done some wild and dumb shite.

All young people, especially young men, do. I get that it's a "boys will be boys" argument but at its core it's true. All of the hormones, energy, and lack of experience young men have swirling around them causes them to act like fools, it's been that way since time immemorial.

We've developed ways to harness that energy and use it for good or to develop young men, to make it productive. That's what the military and fraternities do. It's not like if you ban greek life this shite just goes away, it'll always be there just completely uncontrolled.

All of that is 100% true.

If I wouldn't have done stupid shite with my fraternity brothers, I would have done it with the guys I bartended with (which was a fraternity in and of itself).

Were it not for my fraternity, I wouldn't have learned how to study in college. It also taught me the power of personal relationships, keeping commitments and being honorable. I am still best friends with some of the guys I was in a fraternity with. One of my fraternity brothers died an untimely death, and I count his family as mine, and try to fill in for him where I can.

We got crazy and did stupid shite. I could fill a book with stories of what we did. But on the flip side, we learned to be men, and the lessons I learned there are still with me today.

I can't do that though. Farm animals would turn down Texas alumni.

Ah I haven’t kept up, though somehow I did end up browsing greekrank.com this weekend, surprised the site is still around.
