Why are people talking about "average salaries"... The page explicitly states that this is based on *median* meaning the middle number in the distribution of ranges. Median is a good number to have, but without context of Average, it can be *wildly* misleading. Average of the middle 50% is typically a much better "picture"... (or even the range of 25-75 percentiles like we see schools presenting with standardized test scores/GPAs for admission info for example).

How can UGA grads rank sixth in average starting income for the State of Georgia?

Well... let's see.

1) That article is from 2015... and doesn't provide context for what schools were ahead that year, nor by how much...

2) Starting salary is wildly influenced by cost of living and field of employment. It's not terribly surprising that Ga Tech and/or Emory would rank higher in starting salary - given the location in Atlanta and focus on STEM for Tech.

In 2018, it looks like the only other school that ranks ahead in state is Morehouse. LINK

Also, located in Atlanta, 2.5x the tuition rate, and *HIGH* job placement in Atlanta and other major metro areas through their alumni network.

Ultimately, as someone stated before... if you don't account for COL differential, salary numbers don't actually mean anything by themselves.

I can go make US 150k in London, Sydney, or SF and it isn't equivalent to making 100k in Atlanta or Charlotte... and that's before accounting for tax differentials as well.

Nothing

What?It has everything to do with it.

Ya don't think STEM majors skew the comparisons?

You actually think comparing a political science major to an EE major is a valid comparison?

Let's compare accounting to accounting or marketing to marketing or even sociology to sociology degrees.

AU has a 31% STEM graduates compared to 13% for UGA

Ga Tech was also listed as "for sports fans"

maybe that means "good institution for sports fans to go and get away , so they can focus on grades"?

Kinda like sports fan rehab

I think it's just a statement they put in for schools with Division 1 sports.

If Sewanee had stayed in the SEC...they would be 4th on that list, right behind Auburn, at $102,500.
