Its something as simple as touching yourself with a gloved ahnd without thinking about it. It's not always gross incompetence, though nurses are often very difficult to deal with because they don't follow specific directions that deviate from the norm.

Have you personally taken off all that gear? I don't work in health care, but do work in the chemical business. It is not easy to remove protective gear without touching something. What is probably needed is a complete redesign of the gear they wear to make it easier to remove without risking contamination. There is business opportunity for some smart, enterprising person.

Fortunately Bush wasn't still president or he would have invaded Iraq again

Yes, I've used that protective gear. It is a pisser to put on but it's downright dangerous when taking off. When your life is potentially on the line you pay utmost attention to every little procedure and you never, ever touch your face.

You have to train yourself in practice to keep focused on how deadly your used gear can be. As gruesome as it sounds, Ebola is weeding out those who are absent-minded.

Wow, 6 years into the worst president since Carter and you are still blaming Bush. Nice.

I still believe Carter was the worst president ever due to his shear uselessness. Obama at least tries every now and then, misguided as it may be. Carter was literally just a figurehead.

I am just wondering how long before a child gets sent to a large daycare center after symptoms set in, or a symptomatic infected person goes to work in a food service job.

This stuff is scaring the heck out of me.

Can't stress this enough. It's surprising how many dudes immediately wipe their brow -- even if it's with your forearm it's a bad idea. Decontamination should be taken really seriously.

Also, people say Ebola isn't that contagious -- but if these people are wearing MOPP 4 I'd have to say it's probably pretty goddamn contagious.

People call me paranoid down here in Mexico City, but I take this shite seriously. Anyone with a background in CBRN is. It's not a joke.

It's hard to comprehend for regular people.

All the more reason it's insane that our govt and the CDC are bringing people with ebola into the country. Look at how it's spreading already.

It was also pointed out in the other thread how easy it would be for someone to use this as a weapon. If idiots will strap bombs to themselves and walk onto a plane or bus, they will certainly try to get infected and go to work in a busy restaurant or cafeteria. Think of an infected nut spending the last 5-10 days of their fanatical life spitting in every drink or meal that crosses their path........hospitals would be overwhelmed very quickly.

It'd be so easy to just get on a subway all day, sneeze, cough, spit, everything gross and wipe it all over the public transportation areas.

And I would have suspended all flights from that area of the world weeks ago. Why even take the chance?

All I know, is that I told my sis in law, who works as a med tech in Montgomery, and my niece, who is an ER nurse at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, that if this Ebola shite shows up in their hospitals, they better fricking QUIT immediately.

frick that noise.

Well, what happens when you dont know you have it, but you are like every mom everywhere, and take care of your kids, whether you are sick or not...and kiss your kids then send THEM off to elementary school. have relations with your husband, and he goes to work rain or shine, and shakes hands with every colleague he sees in the morning or at meetings etc.

Bubonic Plague Mark 2.

And the thing is -- we just don't think it can happen to us. It's for those dirty Africans who can't clean themselves (no offense Tbird) -- not for us First Worlders.

Rude awakening. Gonna be a bumpy trip if this shite spreads.

Ahhh the old "but Bush......

All the more reason why the American people need to rise up and bring common sense back to our leadership. It's asinine that we are still flying back and forth to affected countries and not even testing people until they get into this country.
It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I can't believe we have let political correctness trump avoiding the next plague.

If Mom has ebola when she does that, the family will know about it before they are symptomatic and therefore not spread it because they can't spread it until they themselves are symptomatic.

The outbreak theories that abound are bollocks.

It is contagious. It is dangerous. The concern about someone coming into contact with someone with the virus and then spreading to everyone they come into contract with instantly means you don't know how to read any of the reporting on how this virus spreads.

Not instantly. But if just one person has the INTENT to spread it once they become symptomatic, they could literally infect thousands and if those infect just 2 each because they don't get treatment right away because in their minds they just have the flu since they don't work in a healthcare environment.....and so on
