Hi OT. I was hoping some of y'all could help me out. I plan to take my GF to Nashville for her bday surprise. Though, I don't know anything about the area and where the best places are to stay that are safe.

Could the wonderful OT help me out? TIA

Age? Interests?

Most hotels are located in safe areas downtown and to the west. Keep an eye for the names below and you'll be in a nicer area with plenty of hotels.

Downtown
SoBro
The Gulch
Music Row
Hillsboro
West End
Belmont
Midtown
Vanderbilt

Some boutique hotels in East Nashville as well with easy access to downtown.

Crime has gotten worse in Nashville and happens anywhere, but if you stick to hotels with good ratings, you'll be fine.

Take her to Belmont and Vanderbilt campuses. Eat at San Antonio Taco when at Vandy. Riverboat would work. Tons of stuff to do.

On way up play with the T-Wall and then clean up in Nashville for a night of music and drinks.

Climb Nashville West (Charlotte location) is the best indoor climbing spot

Percy/Edwin Warner for in town hiking

If willing to drive 1.5 hours, outdoors options really open up:
- Canoe the Caney
- Cookeville and to the south you have Cummins Falls, Burgess Falls, Fall Creek Falls
- South Cumberland State Park near Monteagle/Tracy City

Music
- Broadway honky tonks
- Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge (local spot)
- Bluebird Cafe (songwriters)
- Belcourt Taps (amateur songwriters)
- Listening Room
- plenty of other bigger venues with touring acts

AVOID the southeast side of town (Antioch). Anything near the Zoo is sketchy

Be prepared to pay, but you could stay in the following neighborhoods

12 South
The Gulch
SoBro (abbrev. South Broadway)
East Nashville
West End near Vandy campus
Bellevue (15 min drive to downtown)
Brentwood (10 to 15 min drive downtown)

Hillsboro Village and Green Hills areas are nice. I would avoid East Nashville. If you don't mind a little drive into town, Franklin (South of town) area is really great too.
My family did this ropes course/zipline a couple of weeks ago. It was really fun and is in a good part of town. Ropes Course website

Last time we were there, we stayed at the Hampton Inn at Korean Veterans Blvd and 4th Ave South. There is also a Hyatt and he Omni in the same immediate area.

We were a block and a half from the Country Music Hall of Fame, maybe 4 blocks from the heart of Broadway, as well as the Johnny Cash museum, and 5 blocks from the Ryman.

Whites Creek is just a zip up the road from downtown Nashville. Small safe town at a little crossroads. Check out Richards Cafe. " Live music & dead crawfish".

Some of the stars there might surprise you.

Good stuff away from touristy traffic.

Most downtown hotels in Nashville are clean and fairly safe if a bit pricey. The Loveless cafe is a great place to eat.
