we need to play each other in the playoffs again. i grew up watching spurs/lakers in the first half of the 2000's when whoever won ended up winning the title. too many awesome moments in that rivalry,

Me too--those were the glory days. Hated the other team, but respected each other as the final, biggest hurdle to get to the Finals. My dad and I used to collect the championship documentaries. Didn't realize until looking back just how dominant SA and LAL were from '99 to '09 and how many times one had to beat the other to get there.

1999: Spurs sweep Lakeshow en route to a title.

2000: Lakers win first of Kobe/Shaq era. Duncan was hurt that year, but y'all took out the Jason Kidd-led Suns that beat us.

2001: Lakers sweep Spurs en route to back to back.

2002: Lakers defeat SA 4-1 and pull off the three peat

2003: Spurs end the Laker run by knocking them out of the second round of the playoffs. Game 5 win memorable because of a rare Robert Horry miss in a clutch moment. Spurs go on to win title--Duncan won his second MVP in a row.

2004: Lakers beat Spurs in the second round 4-2. Memorable because of Derek Fisher's .4 second shot to win game 5 (still pains me to talk about to this day ). Lakers make the Finals, but lose to the Pistons.

2005: Spurs defeat Pistons in an NBA Finals that went all the way to 7 games.

2006: Neither SA or LAL made the finals. SA eliminated in overtime of game 7 of the WCsemifinals by eventual WC champion mavs.

2007: Spurs win title again, sweeping LeBron James' Cavs in the Finals

2008: Lakers make finals, but lose.

2009: Lakers beat SA in the WCF (controversial no-foul call on Brent Barry), go on to win title.

Crazy run!

ETA: left off y'all's 2010 title, as well. All the previous was off the top of my head--my bad

I need to get up to Great American Ballpark to see the ol' Redlegs play. I'll hit up Louisville Bats games on the regular though. I need to see if UofL is playing any SEC teams this season in OOC play so I can go all SEC SEC SEC after work one day.

ETA: They're playing Alabama in Jim Patt in March. Might need to find something Crimson and work on my Roll Tide.

i was the only one who watched the final .4 seconds. still one of my favorite moments in sports history haha. that shot duncan made prior to was incredible. i remember going to game 6 and we were all giving parker a rough time because he had a bandaid on his chin

and youre dead on about the nature of the rivalry. it was more out of respect than hate. i HATE the celtics but respect the frick out of the spurs

I can't judge--I wept when SA failed to repeat in 2000. First time I'd ever shed tears over a sporting event. And hardly the last

That's one of the reasons I resented y'all won that series so much. As incredible as Fisher's shot was, Duncan's was even more improbable/impressive, and was supposed to cap off a Spurs comeback from 25 down. Duncan's shot fading away sideways at the top of the key with Shaq draped all over him is one of the greatest shots of all time that people (non-Spurs/Laker fans) have long since forgotten about). Duncan never even saw that ball go through the net

Damn, some great moments in the playoffs between our teams

I've been to Wrigley, Great American, and Turner Field.

I want to go to Yankee Stadium, Dodger Stadium, and Fenway.
