I have my own ideas why, but go ahead and enlighten me.
Because they stopped selling oil in dollars, they switched to euros.
This is a direct attack on the petrodollar and the US economy. We rely on other nations to sell their oil in dollars, which means countries that want to buy oil have to obtain our currency to spend it on oil.
The second we took over the government we switched it back to dollars, even though the euro was worth more.. but the true value of the petrodollar goes far beyond simple currency value.

I'm sure you've researched this way more than I have, and you might be right. However, my opinion is that OPEC controls the oil flow and market which is controlled by how much we (U.S.) tell them to produce and what the price is.
Long story short, there are probably many shitty reasons we were in Iraq, but I don't think the petrodollar was the driving factor. I think it had a lot to do with choking off Iran, at least more so than people think.
This is my own amateur opinion, I'm not trying to pass it off as gospel.

You're right that there were many reasons we were in Iraq, and maybe none had much precedence over another. You sound far from foolish, but you'd be a fool to think the petrodollar issue wasn't a driving force. Letting one country get off the dollar is a huge issue bc more would follow if no action was taken.

Never said it wasn't a factor, just not THE factor. I understand that crude oil was part of the game, and I saw contracts conveniently awarded to the Chinese (a country we had just borrowed money from) when the oil fields were re-opened.
Honest question, if the world's economy is tied into and based off the American economy/dollar, then what is there to gain from seeing the dollar fail?

Just a guess, but wouldn't China benefit from having a portion of the economy being based on their Yuan?
If I remember correctly, didn't the Chinese decide a year or so ago they weren't willing to take US Dollars as payments on debt anymore?

If we actually cared about this stuff, then why don't we ever intervene in the African countries that kill their citizens all the time.
Oh yea, it's because they don't have any oil.

I haven't supported the US bombing/shooting missiles at Kosovo, Somalia, Iraq or Afghanistan ... What the frick does it matter ? They did it anyway and killed millions... And will continue to do so until I die... Hell, they use our tax money to fund their war machine... Talk about being someone's bitch.

Probably so. I was asking because I honestly didn't know and the whole notion doesn't add up, in my simple mind anyway.

That would make sense because China is soon to become the world's largest economy.
Anyway, I will stop de-railing.

And I agreed when I said you're right, that there were many factors involved. I Added that you'd be a fool to think the petrodollar angle wasn't a significant factor.

Well, this is tricky and probably why a dollar collapse won't happen for another few years. People can make good arguments that China and Russia rely on the dollars health, and it's pretty true (for now). Its the western economy, not really the world economy that truly rely's on the dollars health.

Considering 9-11 that one was justified. Using that war to give justification for invading Iraq was wrong.

Youtube China's ghost cities... pretty eerie stuff. Their economy isn't as strong as perceived. But they may be able to play the phony economic game (as we did) to become the worlds primary power. We shall see.

I don't think that's a horrible strike against their economy, if anything it makes it better.
When the time comes for their economy to grow (and it will) the numbers won't be as skewed by temporary construction jobs like many economic recoveries happen to be.
My hometown's recession was markedly impacted by the loss of construction jobs that everyone thought were permanent.
