Its old school respectful to stop for a funeral procession. To stop on the sidewalk and remove your hat was a class move.

Yes I always do, as does nearly everybody in Tennessee.
Your act was very respectful.
Recently my wife's grandmother passed away and people from all walks of life will pull over for respect.
One biker in particular pulled over, cut off his Harley, got off, removed his helmet and stood there with his hand on his heart. I don't know who that man was but I wish I did so I could thank him. I will never forget that show of respect for somebody whom he did not know.

Yes I do.
One of the nicest things I ever saw was in High School when I lost a good friend.
We were in the procession from Wright and Fergusson to Lakeview Memorial Park in Jackson, going down Capitol Street and we passed a City Of Jackson street work crew. As we passed, they stopped their shovel work, removed their hats/caps and were standing with hats over their hearts as the funeral procession drove by.
Really was a kind thing for those men to do. Was very touching. Over 50 years have passed and I still remember.

Yep, once you are old enough to have been in several processions, you see them differently. Much more respect.
That being said, during rush hour in ATL, it's in bad taste of the survivors to schedule the funeral at a time that requires a procession in the thunderdome.

i always stop as long as it's safe.
fun story. i was on i35 when chris kyle came through. that was a shite show. but also awesome because people lined every bridge from dallas to Austin with banners and flags.
we can think what we want about him, but the coordination to pull that off was amazing.

I live in south GA; just about everyone here does, including myself.

Yes. Always. Found out when I lived in Connecticut (uber yankees up yonder, y'all) that it was not done up there...they said it must be a Southern thing to which I'd always reply, "No, it's a respectful thing."

I typically do unless I'm on the interstate and really can't stop to that degree. At the very least, I move over out of the procession's way (it blows my mind when people don't even do that).
I also grew up in a neighborhood that butted up to a major cemetery that has housed some fallen officers and firefighters here. I distinctly remember standing on the main road of our neighborhood for a couple officers and firemen to pay respects as the procession passed.

I always stop and am glad we live in a society with enough cohesion left that we honor those that have died and their surviving loved ones even if they are complete strangers. I'm certain one day this tradition will completely fade away.
