It really does have a great advancement program for Managers/GM's. One of a very few "pay-off" programs in the fast-food industry right now. They just ask you to travel alot and not many people are in the position to do that. But, not bad for a job that only requires a High School Diploma. I love their food and consistency and think they have a good business model either way. A 24/7 business is really hard for any ONE manager to deal with. I actually respect someone who could do that successfully.

I will say this. I have eaten at the same waffle house near my home for years. However recently went there with 2 grandsons and the place was dirty, dishes left on table, order came back wrong and the dishes were dirty. I got mad and raised some sand with the manager, who comped our meal, but I dont mind paying. I wanted the place to be clean and the service good. Because that was a first time bad experience, I will go back again. But if it is slightly bad next time, Im gone.

Bro... this is waffle house. You shouldn't have any kind of expectations for anything except the food. If you go to a waffle house expecting good service or cleanliness then you're going to the wrong place... and you might be even higher than the staff

So what if I did? You probably cash a monthly welfare check and want to make jokes about a company where somebody like you, without a college degree, could work their way up to 6 figures in a relatively short amount of time? If I did work there then it sounds like I'd be doing a lot better than you..

I did work in a similar place for about 3 years in college. I would love to own a WF franchise. Places like that, especially in the right location, absolutely rake in money. But I hated being behind the grill and dealing with the general public, I don't think I could make myself do it again for a single shift, let alone the time it would take to climb the WF ladder.

Honestly though if somebody went to work there directly out of HS and were a good worker and were able to start climbing the management ladder, then by the time most of their friends graduated college with a frick ton of debt, they could be doing very good for themselves. Work at a place like that for 20 years and climb the ladder up to corporate ladder, you could retire around 40 with a very nice salary and start a whole second career while already drawing a pension. Meanwhile, theres people your age that are probably still paying off student loans from a shitty liberal arts degree that led to a worthless career with no room for upward mobility.

I really think that high schools should teach kids that oppurtunites like that exist as alternatives, as well as teaching trades, instead of pushing every single student towards college when it's obvious that not everybody is an academic type meant for college.
One of my best friends/golfing buddy retired from Waffle House and he's quite comfortable. He's also got a 100 funny stories about things that happened at them. He recently attended the funeral of the founder (or one of the founders )

we normally only go to the WH Lounge for breakfast. Been going to the same one near our house for years, but lately the food and service there have SUCKED.

Belle, do you go to the one near the Target?

First Watch? The only one we've been to is on Hurstbourne. It's decent. We'll head there sometimes when the wait is too long at Wild Eggs (I go to the Dutchman's location).

I like watching the cook work. I don't think I could keep that straight. I always think, "Dude, you can do that and you are here at 2 AM, take some classes during the day and do something that pays better."

I love going when on a long trip, great crowd.

Otherwise, breakfast is the only thing I can cook as well as a restaurant so I don't eat it out much.

What's the difference between a Waffle House and a Huddle House?

FEMA uses Waffle House as a quick gauge of the severity of a storm and the estimated resources needed for recovery.

You can't do that with the less efficient Huddle House.

Anybody can make an omelet, the key is age and experience. Give me a guy with a 3rd grade education and 20 years as a short order cook to some pimple faced college kid any day.

a Waffle House on every interstate exit

You know you're back in the Deep South when there are two Waffle Houses per interstate exit: one for each direction of travel.

I don't think I've ever been to a Waffle House before midnight or sober. No idea if the foods worthy of a trip during daylight hours.

I like a chain place called Zeggz. Its like Wild Eggs but located closer to me.
