So you're saying you're having allergies kick up after stopping allergy med?
Interdasting. I'm no doc but resume your allergy regime?

Maybe you should try methadone or suboxone maintenance. That should ease your withdrawal symptoms and help you live a normal life free from the antihistamines. Good luck, I will pray for you.

Follow up on my own comment. 8 days later still itching and may be even worse. It seems like when anything rubs my skin it itches there instantly and awfully. Brush hair scalp itches. Shower and towel dry whole body itches. Whipe butt... Yeah butt itches. Witch hazel dont help. The best remedy is ignore what itches till it quits. Themire you scratch the worse it itches. Wish I knew before I started taking it how terrible I would suffer. I read the box and there's no warning about the withdrawals.

Antihistamine withdrawal
Here’s an article you might find helpful. I would try tapering the dose vs just quitting cold turkey. The side-effect you are experiencing isn’t listed because drug studies only list the most common side-effects and cautions. You are one person in a very rare group who do have withdrawal symptoms from it.

My wifey takes Claritin regularly. When she runs out of it, I don’t feel a thing. Hope this helps.

So, what's the verdict 5 yrs. in? Are you still itchy?

You typically don't see rebound issues with Claritin...could be high histamine levels because you are still reacting to something in the environment.

No comment on the cause of the itch now

Now Claritin-D--if I take that I will probably sleep about 6 hours over the course of four days and feel like benchpressing cars and running through brick walls.
You should try some pure crank

Any allergy med you take that has "D" on the label is really, really bad for your kidneys. Also really bad for your blood pressure as well.

Bumping this old thread because I'm now fighting this too and this was one of the top results in a google search. I normally take Clartin in the fall or spring for allergies and go off it for months at a time. After last fall I found that after 2-3 days of not taking Clartin I would start getting itching all over. Thinking it was some type of allergic reaction I would take a clartin and it would go away in 10-20 minutes. After several months of this I've come to realize that it's like clockwork 24-48 hours after stopping clartin the itching comes. I think I ruled out environmental factors after I still got the itching on a week long Disney cruise. Dr prescribed me singulair and even if I'm taking the singulair I still get the itching 24-48 hours after not taking a Clartin. Tried cold turkey and that didn't work at all. Going to try tapering off the dosage and see if I can wean myself off of it.

In my non-medical opinion you have the crabs or are having withdrawals. Hope this helps

Go see an allergist and get tested. They can prepare a serum to desensitize you to what you are allergic to. I would get severe reactions just from mowing grass, pollen etc. Now I take allergy shots and it has allowed me to get back to normal. They may also get you on some nasal sprays that will help. Or a steroid shot can indicate if it is an allergy or something else.
