Kinda got this feeling when we left the office and scheduled the next six visits. Lol.

The guy did find a small fracture on X-rays. Said it was minor and recommended an orthopedist if we wanted a referral. Everything they did is exactly what my physical therapists have done for my bad back over the years except for the adjustments. My copays are a lot less at physical therapy.....

I went to a chiro for sciatica, after doing meds and PT. Did not improve. Doctor wanted to do surgery. I said I wanted to exhaust all options before surgery. Told him I was going to a chiro and then trying acupuncture...I always thought chiros were kooks, however I have been relatively pain free for 1.5 years after 8 sessions. He said I needed 32 sessions, which coincides with what my insurance would pay....go figure.....

Nope they are not MDs. Its important to remember that MD's have exactly TWO toolsets. 1. Knives. 2. Drugs. Thats it.

There are other forms of medicine that are legitimate. While I have never had back trouble, I know people who SWEAR by Chiropractors. I have had acupuncture and I know for a fact that shite works. At least for me. I have had problems with my legs and neuropathy for a few years.

My son also plays baseball and he has some back issues and we have taken him to a chiropractor for them. This guy specializes in sports injuries. He doesn't make a ton of false claims, just keeps everything in line. He also worked on my back when I have had issues and he has relieved my pain. Much better than surgery.

On that note a lot of them are terrible. Just like in any profession.

I am pro chiropractor. I haven't been in years, but went growing up and highly recommend. Not for everyone, but sure worked for me.

From my personal experience- I was at my wits end with my Dr. I hurt my lower back at the gym (with a personal trainer? wtf lol) and I couldn't walk for about a week. I had a lingering sciatica thing going on where it hurt to sit, it hurt to walk, etc etc for about a year after. I kept going to the dr- they just kept prescribing me more pain medication and muscle relaxers. I decided to go to a chiropractor. I was desperate. After 3 sessions, I have been pain free in my back for almost 2 years now. Like it never happened. I know some people think they are quacks, but man- it changed my quality of life. I was tired of getting meds to cover up the problem, and glad that whatever he did fixed it.

Interestingly, my wife had a flip story of this. She had been going to the chiropractor for years and had been very helpful.

When we moved here we found a new one. Then she had some lingering hip and leg pains that wouldn't go away. She kept going to the Chiro and it didn't get better. She researched and asked if it was sciatic and the Dr said "no, just keep coming back." She went and saw her general practitioner (after the 4th visit didn't help) who correctly diagnosed it as a sciatic nerve issue and gave her meds and stretches to make it go away.

I know there are good ones out there, but there are definitely some quacks in the mix too.

For the most part, DC can't cure any medical condition; rather, they can make it feel better for a period of time. But most want you to come back again & again & again, and that one comment bout his number of visits coinciding with the number his insurance would pay for is a red flag that can't be ignored. If you feel you have to give it a shot, stay far far far away from those who advertise on billboards, as they are all plaintiff atty's whores.

I'd be very reluctant to treat a child with chiropractic.

There's no evidence that it works, it may actually hurt, and if there's anything really wrong, you're better off going to a medical doctor.

Got an orthopedic appointment this Weds. I feel confident that we will walk out of there with a script for physical therapy which is basically what the chiropractor was doing. Oh well, whatever works. My kid wants to be a doctor and doesn't trust the chiropractor already.....

Also, my deductible for the chiropractor is $2K until insurance starts paying. For physical therapy, it's a $60 copay. Sorry chiropractor.
